Andy Hunt ''flopped'' big time after leaving Charlton at the age of 30 and never played at pro level again - but for very different reasons that had nothing to do with loss of form or being over the hill.

Im not really sure quitting the game due to injury counts

Therry Racon maybe? 0 Apps this season.
And he said Charlton was a "Stepping stone" in his career. Good one.

Andy Reid flopped after leaving. So has Lloyd Sam.

Shelvey flopped it out after leaving us.
Was a flop before he left us

Has Rob Elliott ever played for Newcastle yet?
Yeah in a cup game. Let in a few goals in that game I think
  • Hans Jeppson - he never achieved the same goals/games ratio in Italy

    Danny Murphy .
Certainly flopped at Spurs, but done very well for Fulham.

In fact, there are relatively few Charlton players who've flopped away from us in the last few years, indeed it's often been the other way round, with ex Charlton players doing much better away from us
Ambrose, McCarthy, Hudson, Varney, McLeod, Andy Gray, Iwelemu, Josh Wright, Jerome Thomas are all playing at Championship level or higher.

Gordon Watson came through the ranks in the early nineties and looked a great prospect. Went to the Wendies (and Southampton?) and quickly disappeared.

Paul Williams was a great signing for us from Charlton, also you had Bob Bolder and Peter Shirtcliffe, both decent players from us.

McLeod has dropped down to League 2, Don't know what Andy Gray and Iwelumo are up to ?

Scrub McLeod (though he has been knocking them in for Barnet this season and is likely to get a move up the ladder in the summer)
Andy Gray has been at Barnsley since he left us - I can't believe we paid £1.5m for him !?!
Iwelemu has played for Wolbes, Burnley and Watford since leaving us (plus Scotland, when he did his famous miss!)

the majority of Curbs' signings. It was a testament of how good a manager he was that very few of his players actually bettered themselves after leaving us.

Hans Jeppson - he never achieved the same goals/games ratio in Italy
True HJ's 9 goals in 11 games was exceptional and saved our bacon in '51/52, but he went on to score 81 in 158 games which wasn't bad going in the defence dominated Italian league

Bit harsh. Played in Europe for Wednesday, went to Soton for over £1m and had some good spells for both. Filthy tackle by some Huddersfield thug ended his career (Watson successfully sued him).Smart bloke actually, judging by his occasional slots as a radio pundit.

    Osie Sankofa.

Debut at Old Trafford IIRC and harshly sent off at Arsenal but then slid down the league and is now playing at a very low level.

Watson was awarded nearly £1m. in damages for his injury: I think he finally finished at Hartlepool where he had a couple of decent seasons before anther dodgy tackle did for his other leg!

You're right, of course, and I only suggested it tongue in cheek. If his subsequent career was a failure then who needs success?

I was going to suggest Allan Simonsen as an alternative but I see you beat me to it!

O.K HZ, it's only that I'm sensitive about Jeppson as his last game was why my old man took me to The Valley for the first time: it was of course also my first home defeat (0-1 Pompey). It was also '50/51 of course: another old-timer's moment there!

    John Barnes.

Did absolutely nothing playing wise (and not much commentary wise) after he left us.
  • I must concede that my grandfather, Fred Lucas, flopped rather badly at Palarse. Ended up rowing with the club over him not being able to play due to a leg injury he sustained. However, is that a bad thing (to flop at *THEM*)?

Yassin Moutaouakil at Hayes and Yeading! Unthinkable for a former French U21 captain who is only 25 years old.

When i saw him vs Ebbsfleet the other month, you could easily tell this lad's confidence is shot. Still fast etc but looks a shadow of the player vs Scunny in Aug 2007.
  • Jerome Thomas flopped at Pompey before coming good at WBA.

It's all those vowels - just asking for trouble in England!
