Anyone know approx what year the JS stand was built?
I was at the last game at the Valley vs Stoke in 1985 and I'm sure it had been up a good number of years by then.

Think it did open in time for the 79-80 relegation season, but it seemed to take forever to build the thing.

Amazing to think that our oldest stand is younger than me!

How was it built? Was the terrace that had been there knocked down completely, or was it just adapted?

As I recall, it was mostly just the original terracing with a few holes dug for foundations. It was later to receive more concrete to alter the terracing to fit the seats.

The south terrace was also originally much bigger. The top part was sold off to build the housing that now stands behind the south end of the ground.

Thanks Purdis. Just checked this image out and it appears to show the new 'South Stand' nearing completion. There is no hooligan fencing, there is work going on at the back and the walkway to the rear and side of the stand.
I remember the club putting on a firework display at this end on 5th November v Plymouth Argyle for the 1976/77 season (well, I checked the date) clearly before the stand was built. Hard to imagine that type of thing being allowed these days. Anyone else remember this?
