So the best third keeper is a kid who's played in L2?
Butland will be a top keeper, is it that big a risk taking him as 3rd choice, good experience for the guy and barring a crisis, he won't get near the pitch.
great experience for the kid but there must be other alternatives. Hamer for instance. Played in a League higher, more clean sheets. Should have been a shoe-in.

Feel for Ruddy.
Im sure he'll be a great keeper, just questioning if he's the best third choice right now! As you say probably wont get near the pitch but thought the whole idea is you take your best 23? Wasn't there a young keeper at Watford who was really promising?
Cant understand why the likes of Fraser Forster and Scott Carson have been overlooked. Both have had very good seasons. It seems that Hodgson will only consider players playing in England. Joe Cole was also overlooked after having a very good season for Lille
Butland is a very promising prospect. If he's only going as third choice, why not take a kid to give him experience? He has played for England at the U - 20 World Cup last year and was a stand out player.
Butland has a fine chance of being regularly involved with England for years so the logic of taking him over a Championship keeper (who will probably never get another call up) does make sense in that he almost certainly won't play but the experience will be beneficial and it gives him chance to work with Joe Hart (one of the worlds best) and challenge himself in training against top players.
Forster, Stockdale and Carson may feel a bit aggrieved however.
Third choice hardly matters, feel a bit sorry for Ukraine who have lost their top 3 keepers however, but anyway surely scott carson he was great for us , deserves it on that alone I reckon
The experts always say what a wonderful experience it is, but I'm not convinced that two weeks hanging about with tools like fat frank, Stevie G and mother Terry, sharing the bench with prodigious talents like Downing and Green and working for a lame duck manager then facing the usual press and public lambasting on return is such a great thing

Surprised Fraser Forster (Celtic's keeper) wasn't considered though..
Feel sorry for ruddy but when has a 3rd choice keeper done anything other than make the tea

Bad luck for Ruddy, but the irritating self-loving Norwich fans will quieten down a bit now at least.
