'Dexys' Midnight Runners - REFORMED

edited May 2012 in Not Sports Related
Did anyone catch them on Jools Holland? Brand new record due out in a few days, sounds superb. Also playing Barbican at the in September, anyone else going?
Dexys & The Stone Roses in a matter of months, what a great year 2012 is...

Would love to see Dexys. Had and loved all 3 albums even though they were all so different musically. My favourite has to be Searching for the young soul rebels which still gets a regular airing on radio Tango.................

After reading this I searched for a clip on youtube. Don't think I'll bother going to see them........................

All about opinions isn't it but I personally couldn't stand Dexys Midnight Runners probably because "Come on Eileen" would easily make my top 5 most irritating records of all time as would "Hi Ho Silver Lining" and I absolutely love Jeff Beck. Heard a couple of tracks from the new Dexy's album and thought they were prety average and to be honest Kevin Rowlands is a crap singer.

Have to agree about Come on Eileen - Typical "I really want this party to get started" tune.
It's all about the Geno for me...

The new stuff grows, just needs a little time. Searching for the young soul rebels is a classic

Looking at their JH performace, they lacked the one vital ingredient that made them a great band in the early 80's.

Energy. They seemed very flat and tired. I know some will say "well it's 30 years on so what do you expect?" But as an example, I've seen the Specials 3 times (4th coming up in July) and no such problems there....................

The woman in the band got prosecuted last year by the benefit fraud squad. Apparently she was on the fiddle.................

Heard some of their new album on Six Music last week and it sounded really good. It's not like their old stuff (that I love btw), it was even more melodic and soulful.

Don't Stand Me Down is one of the great underrated albums. Their show at The Dominion in 1985ish and it was one of the best gigs I've ever seen.
Looking forward to the new album and seeing them at The Barbican later this year.

I bought that album on good old vinyl when it came out and pretty much wore it out.

This has always been one of my favourite 80's songs. 'Geno' was even a candidate for the first name for my first son.
