On that site. Busquets and Pedro have gone from playing 4th division football to win everything there is to win since Arsenal last won a trophy. Amazing
Not really surprised he is going, he is approaching Wenger's cut off age of 29, he seems to have that age in mind when determining how long a player should stay at Arsenal, all these (I believe left Arsenal at that age): Henry Ljungberg Petit Vieira Wiltord Lauren
Toure and Overmars were 28 I believe. Now apart from a few winning medals elsewhere I don't think many from that list reached anywhere near the form they did for Arsenal. Probably a combination of a player reaching their peak and the last chance to earn as much in sales as possible.
I like Arsenal, they kind of 'do things right' and this smacks of that too. RVP has said new contracts/wages etc were never part of the discussion once he knew Arsenal would not progress the team the way he wanted.
I guess what he was looking for was 100s of millions spent on the team and big name signings which means huge salaries all round. Arsenal won't do that.
I respect the guy for saying it now. For Arsenal's sake I hope he lets them sell him. For him to walk on a free would be painful.

I love the way Arsenal do business, will not break the bank for players, keep a firm handle on wage structure etc. W2nkers like Piers Morgan can rant all they like - if he ran the club it would be bankrupt within 5yrs.
The only criticism is maybe Wenger has lost his touch a little at finding great players.

I think you'll find that this group of players went on to win four Italian League Titles, Three French League Titles, Two Spanish League Titles, A Premier League Title, Three FA Cups, Two Italian Cups, One Spanish Cup and a Champions League after they left Arsenal. I would suggest that they would have a decent claim to have achieved something after leaving Arsenal, who haven't won any kind of trophy, at all, for seven seasons, and haven't won the Premier League Title for eight seasons.
I think there is a good argument that keeping players at their peak (29, 30, 31) is good for on the field success. Also Nasri and Fabregas were nowhere near 29 when they left. I think Van Persie's decision to leave has nothing to do with Wenger. I think Wenget has lost the confidence of his top players, they just no longer believe that he will deliver them a title. I suspect that the average age of their stars leaving is going to fall.
For the record, I've always thought that Van Persie would leave. I just thought that he was saying the right thing to keep the Arsenal players onside while he was wearing their shirt. I fully expect him to leave this summer, Man City will almost certainly offer him as much money this summer with a transfer fee as they would offer him next summer if he went there on a free. Strangely, unlike North Lower Neil, I think this is exactly the same approach as Sol Campbell. Refuse to discuss or comment on a new contract until the season is over when the player has no intention of playing for the club again.
Like some of those above I fully understand the player's right to choose to leave for more money, and better chances of winning something, and I also understand why he would mislead the fans to keep them from giving him a hard time before he went, but I also understand the anger the Arsenal fans would have. I was very disappointed in ZZ when he went off around the world playing for China to the detriment of Charlton (he missed a lot of games through injury), especially when he refused to sign a new contract and left on a free.
disagree Plaaayer. I reckon RVP wants trophies? He's been there a long time and he isn't going to get them at Arsenal without heavy investment and probably a couple of years delay, if they can do it at all.

I did say in my post they had won a few medals elsewhere but my main point was their best form was behind them which I think is fairly accurate. Looking at the teams most moved on to its sort of inevitable they would have won things, doesn't necessarily mean Wenger was wrong to get rid of them. Nasri and Fabregas are slightly different cases, it was easier to keep the group I mentioned together because they were winning (or at least challenging for trophies) that and the wages being offered for those two are immensely more. I'm not saying its a hard and fast rule they keep their best players until an exact age then get rid but I think Wenger tries a balancing act of keeping players before they start to head downhill and players who want to play for the club, Fabregas and Nasi clearly didn't want to be there in their final season so was it wrong to get rid of them?
I would say give it 5 years or so and Arsenal may well be one of the strongest teams in the Premier League given the financial model they have in place. When the UEFA financial fair play rules kick in the likes of Man City, Chelsea and maybe even Man Utd are going to suffer big time. If any football club is looking for financial stability and a solid business model to emulate then they should look no further than Arsenal.
This obviously doesn't satisfy the short term expectations of players and fans for trophies/success at that level.
I would be more than happy if the current Charlton board adopted the Arsenal model in regards to moving the club forward.
Strangely, unlike North Lower Neil, I think this is exactly the same approach as Sol Campbell. Refuse to discuss or comment on a new contract until the season is over when the player has no intention of playing for the club again.
You cant compare RvP and Judas. At least RvP has come out openly and says he wont sign a new contract and has at least given Ars*nal the opportunity of getting a fee for him. Unlike Judas who lied over and over again about not wanting to leave Spurs and then p1ssed off for free to our biggest rivals when we'd turned down £20m for him from Man Utd in the January thinking that he would stay.
As much as I dislike W*nger as a person, you cant fail to admire what he has done for Ars*nal. They've managed to rebuild time and time again after losing their best players while not spending huge amounts of money while they've built the Cameldome. They play football the way its is supposed to be played. RvP isnt bigger than the club. They'll recover as they have done before but W*nger needs time. Sounds a silly thing to say bearing in mind he's been there years now but thats what he needs. They've got the makings of a very good side if they can add a bit more quality.
The question is though, will he get the time? The fans are restless. They were calling for his head last year. If they get off to another bad start this season, they'll be under more pressure than ever. Bearing in mind how much them fans pay every week to watch Ars*nal, how long will they put up with not winning trophies?
I think Arsenal's biggest problem now is the credibility that they can win something. Very few people believe they can. Look at the number of players Chelsea and Man City had to massively overpay to get to go there when they didn't believe they were going to win something. Arsenal have little problem attracting young prospects because they know they will develop into better players before they get the 'big' move away at the top of their game.
Sadly Arsenal have become something of a feeder club for Europe's Elite. Breaking that perception is going to be very difficult. A 24 year old player would have still been at school the last time Arsenal won the league. If you are late 20s and you have one big contract left in you you would only go to Arsenal if you were offered a fortune as you would expect to win nothing before you are too old to command a first team place.
Always liked Wengers style, but hes done a poor job since the invincibles.
As it said in the rag, unbeaten season, should have gone on to dominate domestic and european football for years but they have just collapsed. Everyone now and then a big buy wont hurt. Infact youd get your moneys worth compared to when you add up the continuous shite nobodys hes been bringing into the club for the past few years.
The fact that even after 5 odd years without winning a thing, they were still one or two players away from people serious serious competitors but didnt act on it and consquently keep failing to persuade there best players to stay.
Guarantee the 2 new guys wont score as much as RVP did combined this year. From what ive heard even Walcotts not sure about staying there now.
Don't like arsenal. Was brought up that way and I don't like their smug fans. They left South London the same way Wimbledon did. Always glad to see them fail for abandoning their South London roots. After all, there's never been an Arsenal in North London.
Can't see Giroud or Podolski replacing RVP, not even between them. Hopefully they'll miss out on the Champions Cartel League this year.
Giroud and Podolski will replace RVP easily, as last year was just a purple patch where he managed to stay fit all season. This season he will only play about 20 games and scored 9-10 goals, guaranteed. They should cash in on him now and use the money to buy a half decent centre back to play alongside Vermaelen, and a proper old fashioned central midfielder, who can break play up, get his foot on the ball and create a goal.

I agree about the what they should do with the money but I don't think he'll be easily replaced. Last season, he was relied on and carried Arsenal. There wasn't a good enough replacement for him.
You could say Solly had a purple patch where he managed to stay fit? It's easy to say but players have injury problems in their career. He was fit last season and that wasn't down to luck completely.
I do agree that if he doesnt want to sign a new deal, then arsenal should cash in on him.

It's a problem of their own making. Paying Diaby,

A handle on wage structure? Explain how Bendtner is on £52k a week!!?
That's been their biggest problem, the complete lack of a rising pay structure reflective of a players ability. Too much crap like Bendtner, Denilson, Diaby etc are on a very decent wage which has meant they have been unable to pay the top players top money.
It's one of the things the board mentioned this summer, saying they need to review the balance of wages as too many players are on over inflated wages.
Comments
only one i can see now is on skybet, real madrid to be RVP's club after this summers transfer window 8/1.
Get rid, get £20m+ in the bank and spend it properly.

I think Robin and his agent have badly misjudged the situation and are nowhere near as clever as they think they are.

Id like to see him stay in England because he's world class. We don't have many players like him left in the PL.
I can see him moving to Italy or even PSG.
