Any garage who gives you a good warranty has an incentive not to sell you a dud.
Not really - the warranty is provided by an insurance company. You don't even have to take the car back to the place you bought it from. I had a problem with a car which was under warranty and had my local garage sort it for me - even down to arguing with the company who supplied the warranty.
Buy privately if you can - if you don't know what to look for when looking at a car, take a friend who does or you can get it inspected by a mechanic - a friend of mine will do that for you (for a fee) - PM me if you want his details.
If you buy from a dealer you will be paying through the nose. The only thing a dealer may give you is some sort of warranty, but if you really want one it is possible for you to buy one for a car you've bought privately.
Well Poplcon we bought a second hand Focus from The Kingshighway Garage in Plumstead 2 years ago and so far it was a good buy. They gave us a 6 months warrenty and when the car developed a littel fault they took it in and fixed it without an argument. tthey are not cheap but as dealers go they seem to be pretty good. By the way they encourage you to have an independant inspection
Thanks to them I avoided buying a "cut and shut" a few years back.
Good advice, and has the added bonus that when you ask permission to get the car inspected, the dodgy geezers don't like it and are amusingly inventive with their reasons why you don't need to do it.
