Jamie Stuart was the worst player I have ever seen play for Charlton

My Dad tells me Dietmar Bruck was dire
Mmmmmmm....how many games have you seen?
Over 1,000 I would guess....he had absolutely no quality whatsoever and his subsequent journeyman career proves it
  • Yassin moutaoukil was fairly useless as a defender - fast but little else.

Bruck was pretty lame but I've seen worse.
He had an amusing habit pointing before he released the ball, in a kind of "this is where I'm gonna put it" way.
Usually went in touch or in the opposite direction

I've been hesitant about nominating David Campbell as I think he could have been a class act but for whatever reason it just didn't happen. I think he was still on schoolboy forms for a number of games and once he was in the team his progress was very slow and ultimatly disappointing. As often happens, perhaps too much was expected too early.

David Campbell was unfortunate because of the dross he had around him at the time.

Les Berry was still comparatively young and inexperienced, Peter Shaw wasn't established and the so called experienced players like Tony Hazell who should have been guiding him were past it.

I agree with you that in the right environment he might have become a class act but, as I knew him personally slightly at the time, I could be a bit biased.

Sad really that, having played 70 odd games in the second tier of English football, Dave called it a day at the age of 21. Despite all the money he has subsequently made in business I wonder if he ever regrets quitting football so soon.

If anyone has a subscription to The Times maybe they would be good enough to put this up....

Surprised carl tiler has only been mentioned once... Never rated him. Also Greg halford never impressed me, but I'm sure we've had plenty worse!

El-Khalej's performances for us were comedy gold - unless you were a Charlton fan. Hudson and Primus in the dying days of Pardews regime were the worst partnership I've ever seen, with the proviso that Hudson did OK with Darren Ward and Primus had a good career when he was younger. Pardews ability to get the worst out of players was without parallel.

Martin Cranie had all the physical presence of water vapour.

Wasn't a bad player in my opinion but Greg Shields did something for Curbs to let him go. Antony Barness at right back in his second spell used to be a bit worrying.

Woefull in div 3 by far the worst defender i have ever seen at charlton

Then i would put llera another defender who had 1 good game and then 6 or 7 really poor decsion making games

Off the back of the strikers topic, let's make a list of defenders:

    1. Djimi Traore

For those of us posters old enought to remember I have to say Harry Cripps who came to us after the best of his years at Millwall were over. Absolutely dreadful!

    but it was fun though

This. Closely followed by Nigel Gray.
No way Diawarra, he was turning into a class act after a dodgy start. As mentioned Peter Shaw took some terrible stick early on, but following an excellent goal at the old Den against the scum, he became a very good defender. Phil Ferns and Paul Friar were also weak full backs I thought.

Surprised nobody's mentioned Mark Hudson yet - effectively a straight swap for Paddy McCarthorse and we somehow ended up getting the worst end of the deal.

Can't say I was particularly impressed with Greg Halford, considering the transfer fees he's commanded. Not quite as bad as Martin Cranie though.

A bit further back, Alan McLeary was less than impressive during his season with us.

Diawara, no matter what he has done since leaving the bloke was terrible for us, his clown show at Wigan probably cost Dowie his job.

That is before we even talk about him getting torn apart by Jermaine Easter at The Valley in the debacle against Wycombe.
  • Francis was crap ,realy crap and fresh in my mind the rest have been forgiven in time as at times the whole team was crap and almost unwatchable(but we still did!)

Bolloxbolder's choices are the correct answers. No-one else even comes close to Mickey Paye and poor old Tom Hovi played in the Derby County fiasco at home and the 5-1 thrashing at Bolton! (although he did only come on as bath-tub in both of those games, his name will always be linked with nightmare performances).

Borrowdale was ok getting tight to a man but didn't jump for one header in all the games he played....and he was an ex-centre-back!!!!

    Diawara? Really?

Not only was he in the CL last season but he hardly put a foot wrong when with us.

A personal opinion of a player can't be related to your opinion of them on the pitch.
Ronaldo, Grade A ****er but does that make him a poor footballer? No...
