Does Jerome Thomas fit this category or should I start a new one for the worst right footed left winger?

He wasn't the worst in an absolute sense but in the context of a midtable Premiership team, Bryan Hughes would take some beating.

Jerome Thomas does not fit this category because he was decent, hense why he is still playing in the prem. Matt Spring is one of the worst I have seen

The problem with these types of debates is one has to decide whether context matters - if not then almost by definition no player who featured in the Premiership can be amongst the worst. Similarly any player merely adequate in the third tier must be amongst the worst even if relatively popular.

Anyone else remember Vince O'Kane: his most constructive move was being sent off at Southend (if memory serves).

that's a bit harsh on Mark Tivey - he was an out and out left winger and only ever played one game - he had a lot of natural talent

  • Dont think players that only played a few mins or 1 game really count.

    Disappointments for me were:

    Rommedahl
    Thomas after his early promise
    McCormack
    Racon
    Scott Sinclair
Redfearn (albeit was played out of position)

Worst midfielder ever to wear the charlton shirt? Me. I've worn it in kcikabouts and I'm bad in midfield. Decent at the back though!

Came in this thread expecting to have to defend Ambrose, pleasantly surprised.

Matt Spring or McCormack I think.
  • Brendan O'Connell

The thing with Spring is he scored the winner against Palarse which gets him out of jail for me.

Has to Mcoxo V Faye for me.

Churchouse and Jacobsen were a class apart. Shoo-ins for every all time worst side me and my mates put together over a 30 year period. Tony Towner slaughtered us when he played for Rotherham but was truly abysmal for us - he couldn't seem to get the ball off the deck. Paul Bacon was pretty poor as well.

Going a bit obscure here, we had a bloke on loan called Peter O'Sullevan who had a good career elsewhere but was hopeless in a red shirt. I actually thought Racon was bloody useless as well, despite everyone telling me he was a genius (apart from Bolloxbolder who was er, never convinced).

No one comes close to Amdy Faye - worst midfielder , worst player I have ever had the misfortune to see play for Charlton in 30 + years of watching the Addicks.

O'Sullivan came from Brighton didn't he? I only remember him playing once but he was so bad it stuck in the memory.
Early 80s - Mountfield, I think his name was. Pretty poor - played in the team that lost 7-0 at Brighton.

  • Even though his last minute goal against the stripey shit

You have to admit that dennis did nothing for us and was a poor midfielder

Might not have been the worst but the most disapointing
  • There is no way Rommedahl deserves to be any where near this thread! He may not have been the best player but is no where near the level of McCormack, Racon, Sinclair, Faye etc.
  • Matt Holland - ran around alot but was so slow the ball was always gone by the time he got there. Contributed nothing with the ball at his feet.
