"Gone back to the original format"......... Hopefully. Actually making it funny instead of concentrating on cgi would be good.
Bet the original Holly isn't in it.
Shame if he isn't because he was one of the funniest things about the early series'. Queeg remains one of the funniest episodes (IMO) of the entire show and I also love little things like the Norweb Federation gag.
Red Dwarf Part II of Dave TV - The Official Home of Witty Banter's Red Dwarf X podcasts sees them catching up with Danny John Jules. Listen here: http://uktv.co.uk/dave/blogpost/aid/653748 Oooooooowwwwwwwwww!
i am so so excited! i was one of those sad people that used to look out for this years ago, and i gave up hope, and then good ol' Dave brings it back! good times. Do we presume we don't find out what happened after the end of series 8?
Space battles, quantum entanglement, and love triangles with snack dispensers are just some of problems facing the boys from the Dwarf as they return in a brand new series - launching exclusively on Dave on Thursday 4th October at 9pm.
Red Dwarf X, the 10th series of the legendary sci-fi sitcom, reunites the much-loved original cast of Chris Barrie (Rimmer), Craig Charles (Lister), Danny John-Jules (Cat) and Robert Llewellyn (Kryten) with six episodes recorded in front of a live studio audience.
The brand new series, written and directed by Doug Naylor, begins with the Dwarfers' mining ship still creaking though the wastelands of unchartered deep space, but the posse soon stumble upon the mysteriously abandoned SS Trojan. As they inspect the ship, Rimmer receives an SOS distress call from an old foe and is suddenly faced with the dilemma of his life.
Dave is available on Sky channel 111, Virgin Media channel 128, and Freeview channel 12 in the UK. Red Dwarf X will also be shown on Dave HD (Sky and Virgin subscribers only). As part of a brand new service, each episode will also be available to view online at joindave.co.uk for seven days following broadcast. The series will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on 19th November, and episodes will be available for download on iTunes 24 hours after broadcast.

I put it on series link, got 10 minutes into the first one and then deleted the lot. Maybe it's just me as others seem to rate it, but there was something just not quite right about it. I don't know what it was technically, but there's definately a change in the look and feel that made it seem more American sit-com in shooting style. Also, I didn't like the fact that they all looked older and fatter. I'm not stupid enough to think that 25 years on they wouldn't, but for some reason it just seemed to jar. When you're younger you can eat what you like, drink what you like...
Another thing, the canned laugher track was awful; too loud; badly timed and in all the wrong places. Perhaps that's where the American sit-com feel comes in.
As we settle down to our Mimosian Turkey dinner this festive season, we're looking back with fondness on a jam-packed year in which Red Dwarf X was a brilliant and unprecedented success.
The first full new series of Red Dwarf in over a decade, Series X was broadcast exclusively on Dave in October and November - and the six episodes were a barnstorming success, attracting average consolidated ratings of 1.7million viewers! The premiere episode alone was seen by a whopping 2.09million, one of the highest ever figures for an original commission on a UK digital channel.
In addition to these ratings, the series attracted widespread critical acclaim across the mainstream and specialist media:
"A real return to form." - Radio Times
"People wanted it to be good and were downright deliriously happy that it was." - SFX
"BBC bosses must be wondering which buffoon decided that they didn't want another series, because the latest outing has been the sci-fi comedy's finest since its early '90s pomp. Smegging ace." - Digital Spy
"Red Dwarf XI would be welcome news after Series X's resounding success" - Starburst
"This comeback series has been a winner" - Metro
"It is raucous in a way that reminded me of the heyday of Third Rock, sure-footed with the extended jokes, high on cod-jargon and dotted with decent one-liners. Craig Charles, Chris Barrie, Danny John-Jules and Robert LLewellyn pilot the thing effortlessly." - Andrew Billen, The Times
"Its best jokes aren't transcribable because they sit in the air between the characters, but I laughed. No sign of freezer burn." - Tom Sutcliffe, The Independent
"More than anything the science-fiction sitcom reunion seems like a beloved band getting back together. And one of the great bands of the 90s, at that. The flavour of the gags remains identical without feeling old." - The Guardian
"Dave's Red Dwarf revival was easily the funniest British show of the week. The BBC's comedy chiefs: smegheads, the lot of them." - Ian Hyland, Mail on Sunday
"On this evidence, Red Dwarf is once again must-see TV; clever, cutting edge comedy that you'd be a smeg-head to miss." - IGN
"All in all, The Beginning does what it says on the tin. It's funny dramatic and all round wonderful. Hopefully, The Beginning will be a bright new future for Red Dwarf." - Cult Den
"... as good as it ever was." - Den of Geek
"It was intelligent and hilarious, and took the show places I didn't expect." - What Culture
"But what a comeback! The script could not have been better had Ace Rimmer himself penned it over his morning kippers." - Ali Lewis, On the Box
"The banter is sublime." - TV Guide
"A triumphant return to form." - SFX
"Smegtastic." - TV Times
"The scripts are still in typically fine, silly, nerdy, shape." - Daily Mail
"The good news for Red Dwarf fans is that it is exactly the same as it was at its peak." - The Times
"The comedy still comes from these four characters adrift in space. Let's hope they'll be stuck with one another for light-years to come." - Daily Mirror
Meanwhile, on the premiere broadcast night, both #RedDwarfX and #moose - referring to the already-classic sequence in series opener Trojan - became worldwide trending topics on Twitter as fans old and new embraced the new series.
Speaking about the positive reaction the show still receives, writer/director Doug Naylor told Starburst magazine: "It's absolutely wonderful. Surprising in the sense that it's amazing that a show that was first conceived in 1984, and first broadcast in 1988 can still be sustaining today, but I am aware of it because of all the Tweetage, fan mail and people you meet."
In recent interviews, meanwhile, Craig Charles has given the cast's view on the series: "We are dead proud of it. We think it's funny, we wanted to make it back into a sitcom. We really did take a lot of time and effort into making it as good as we possibly could, making it character based, not leaving the ship too much. We got that hot sweaty enclosed, claustrophobic vibe back which is where Red Dwarf works best. The scripts were just exceptional. Danny, Chris and Robert are absolutely on fire and it's just great to be one of their mates."
With just one shopping week left to go until Christmas, there's still time to put Red Dwarf X in the stockings of your loved ones this year. The DVD and Blu-ray sets are available now in the UK and Australia, and due for release on 8th January 2013 in the USA. As well as the six episodes, around half an hour of deleted scenes and a fresh batch of classic-style "Smeg Ups", the home release features an exclusive two-hour making-of documentary, titled "We're Smegged", and singled out by SFX magazine as "quite brilliant... a compelling drama all in itself".
You can find quick links to browse and buy all the available Red Dwarf DVDs and Blu-rays, along with various download and on-demand options, at reddwarf.co.uk. You can also keep up with the latest news there and on the official Twitter and Facebook pages.
As the Red Dwarf gang take a well-earned Christmas break, however, thoughts are already turning to next year. Of course, 2013 is a particularly significant year, as February will see the twenty-fifth anniversary of Red Dwarf's first ever broadcast. The Silver Anniversary will doubtless be celebrated in spectacular fashion... but that's for next year.
Finally, we'd like thank you for all your support during the last twelve months - Red Dwarf continues to thrive thanks to the enthusiasm of our fantastic fanbase - and we hope you have a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year!

The sad decline of a once great show continues I'm afraid. Been style over substance for many seasons now.
Merry Christmas, Red Dwarf fans!
