why is the draw set-up to allow a situation like this in the first place?

  • I saw a bit of this on the telly last night.

If I had paid money to see that I would have been furious.

The blatant lack of respect shown to the other pairs in the comp is astonishing.

I didn't see it but if it actually was as blatant as reported then disqualifying the offending teams would send a powerful message in my opinion.

Didn't Dickie Burnell & Bert Bushell do this in the first round of the 1948 Olypmics on they way to gold?

    I'm with you on that.

They were basical hitting the shuttlecock softly into the net. They wasn't trying to hide what they were doing either.
  • Should be kicked out, no appeals.
    Disgusting.

    Just heard all disqualified.
  • They were warned during the match what might happen by the match referee, so they can't have any complaints. They were hitting serves two feet out or straight into the net. Longest rally was 4 shots. Good strong message sent out by the IOC.

Yes, assuming they don't bottle it on appeal which could still happen if my colleague is correct.

Oh yes, we tend to forget about the legendery Bert & Dickie....or "The Cheating Shuttlecock Heroes" as they were known at the time!

Either way, it's still something to be applauded as it will make others think twice. But every silver lining .....

Speaking before the verdict, Korea's coach Sung Han-kook said: "The Chinese started this. They did it first."

I think they'll find that we did it first, like we did so many other sports. Something to do with the upper classes having fcuk all else to do all day I guess!
