At Leeds, Strauss wins toss and bowls, England leave out Swann and Taylor gets the nod at 6. Think he will do well there, looks like he has the apt for test cricket and still young at 22.
If you look at Swann's recent stats, they aren't all that good. Plus, he's got an elbow problem that may be hampering him. It takes some nerve to drop the words no.1 spinner, but England need to do something. Let's see if Finn and Taylor can stake their claims to the side.
If it were just an injury ommission then surely Tredwell etc would have been drafted in - imo it is tactical & although I know little about the game I think it is a wrong move. No spinner means no variation or no "go to" bowler when the quicks are tired - Should always have variety and can't see Trott or Peterson being the answer
I'd rather go in with a balanced attack, that said bowling first on a track like that might mean that Swann wouldn't get that much bowling anyway.
This... Swann wouldn't be much of threat in the first innings. sounds like SA are off to a good start. Got to get Alviro out, he was cack for Essex earlier this season.
The SAs have worked out how to almost nullify Swanns lbw using the DRS by setting up differently.Still I don't think its a great idea because its only a four man attack and if they get tired and the SA batsmen are smacking it to all ends they are going to look silly.Think it looks like game ,set and match to SA unfortunately.
Smith caught......but Umps calls dead ball as Finn leg had hit the stumps. Funny, that it was the 4th time Finn had hit the stumps with his leg and the other 3 times "dead ball" wasn't called.
It depends - it's common for the umpire to give the bowler a couple of warnings and then say that next time it will be a dead ball, and on this occasion he called dead ball before Smith edged it. So provided he gave Finn a warning then it's fair enough.

I don't believe that there any been any warning & the fact that he had already bowled 3 deliveries that weren't called "dead" makes it all a bit dodgy. Once again its consistency that everyone is after. Had the previosu 3 balls that he had bowled when he had hit the stupms had been called "dead" then no complaints..........but they weren't and then he takes a wicket and the Umps calls it dead.
My Sky 1 HD picture is like a silent movie, jumping about as if a few frames are missing.OK on SS 1 is this just my telly or has anyone else having this problem? I dont fancy a 45 min phone call to some one who cant speak English properly just to be told its a temporary fault!

It depends when/if the warning was given - if it was after the third time then there can be no arguments. Either way it's in the laws for the umpire to call a dead ball and technically I don't think they are obliged to give a warning although the convention is that they will.

I concede Finn had to come in but I would've left Bresnan out.

Strauss is going to cop some flak for putting them in.....
