Olympics Music!!!!!!!!!!

Great viewing generally but it is now almost impossible to view anything without the use of background music which is apparently there to heighten the mood....it's now getting really irritating.......it sounded as if the Olympic stadium was also playing music at the end of the 10,000 metres last night? The action is now almost incidental behing the commentary, graphics and music.......BBC please calm it a bit?

  • The events themselves are full of music, after every goal, after every point in things like Volleyball, all a bit OTT, imagine a blast of "Song 2" or similar every time Alastair Cook pushed a single into the covers...
  • CAnt see the problem myslef the crowds at events seem to like it as they sing along
  • Much better with the music, makes it more atmospheric and more like a celebration, which is precisely what the Olympics is all about
  • Was brilliant at Beach Volleyball, they got it spot on. Won't work on all sports but with proper use, it really helps build the atmosphere.
  • What does everyone think of muse's official Olympic song!? As a muse fan do like it. Very queen/elo...
  • What about the BBC official music, First Steps. I must confess that I am one of the singers on it. Recorded with Elbow a few months back at Abbey Road.
  • The Elbow song is brilliant, can't wait to hear the new album if they are all as good as that!
  • Music really added to the whole atmosphere in the stadium tonight, and the sporadic commentary was also excellent.

I went to the basketball yesterday. Whilst there was the odd bit of basketball played, there was more time spent :-

    1) Doing the Mexican Wave

    2) Doing YMCA

    3) 3 spectators having a dance off

    4) Having to kiss the person next to you, if you appeared on the screen

    5) Each block having to sing to Oasis or Hey Jude.

    6) A girl dance troup

    7) Acrobatics on trampolines scoring baskets

I'll leave it there but could go on and on.

The Spain v Russia game was nearly tied. If it had of been, I was expecting that they would have had to do their own version of YMCA or such like to see who wins.

I thoroughly enjoyed it as a one off, but I couldn't be doing all that ***** at The Valley.
  • Agree......maybe TV sport should now be under the heading of General Entertainment.....20/20, Premier League; the must have music is also creeping into the test match on Sky.....

I agree, it quickly becomes repetitive, especially as they seem to so the same things night after night (splitting the 4 sides into different bands etc)

There's only so many times you want to see people doing the bongos too!

Thank god we don't count down the start of play at The Valley with the beat of "we will rock you", or celebrate goals with "song 2"...

  • Quite. Like I said I stopped at 7, but could have listed 20.
  • The music could have been selected by me, no wonder so many people find it annoying! Chime by Orbital during the Steeplechase was fantastic, one of my favourites. Also Primal Scream, Happy Mondays and Joy Division, the sort of stuff I listen to on my ipod on the way to and from work!
  • The thing that annoys me about music and all the above 'entertainment' is that it gets in the way of the natural atmosphere.

Watching Volleyball, the Bulgarian fans were getting excited as they neared victory over Australia, but their singing was constantly being interrupted by music being blasted out at ridiculous decibels after very point! Imagine if while Charlton fans were signing VFR or about Chris Solly we were constantly being interrupted by a blast of Queen or Dizzee Rascal?
  • What about the BBC official music, First Steps. I must confess that I am one of the singers on it. Recorded with Elbow a few months back at Abbey Road.

I was on a drumming course last week, with Richard Jupp as a guest teacher, and he talked us through how the song was composed.

  • What people seem to be forgetting is that this isn't every week like Charlton matches are.

Plus, a lot of people that go along to the events aren't always 100% interested in the sport itself. As much as I enjoyed the Volleyball, there were a few moments of the space of the five hours I was sat there that my interest waned.

It's definitely an indoor sport thing, not comparable at all to watching English football.
