Booking train for Olympic event

I very rarely travel by train (thank God) but I've got to book train tickets to get to Wembley next Saturday for the Men's Football Final. I'm finding the National Rail Travel website and booking form totally infuriating. I registered with the website when I received our tickets to enquire the best route and costs. Today I tried to log on to book our tickets but having forgotten my original password, I asked for a reminder.

I got all the way through the booking form but the website didn't recognise my email address, then it did, but said the password was wrong. They sent another temporary one and when I tried to log in it said my account is locked and I must contact customer services.

ALL I WANT TO DO IS BOOK TRAIN TICKETS! Do they have to make it so complicated? I bet all the visitors from abroad must love such a stupid booking method. I would have driven there but unless you have a blue badge they won't let you park. I have a very badly arthritic knee and using public transport is going to be a problem anyway, even if I manage to get as

  • Did you not get a travelcard with your ticket? Zones 1 to 9?
  • Book special price tickets at www.nationalrailgamestravel.co.uk. You can either pick up from a self service machine at almost any station or special next day recorded delivery at £7. Just received mine for Ebbsfleet to Stratford.
  • I did get travel cards but live outside London so have to pay for the part to London. I also tried to book using the special website for Games travel but found the problems I mentioned in my post. I can't see why I need to have an account to book one off tickets.
  • Sorry ME14, I also meant to say I have had the same problem with my password and it would not let me reregister on my e-mail address, saying it was already registered to somebody else! Just use a friends e-mail or set up a new one on something like google mail.
  • Thanks spooney - I'll try that! How stupid to have such a ridiculous system though.
  • Did the Ebbsfleet to Olympic Park trip yesterday. We just got waved through - no ticket checks. For anyone interested, we also booked the Ebbsfleet event car parking (£8). Allow a bit of extra time as there may be queues and you have to wait for the shuttle bus to the terminal. They guide you to the Javelin trains on platform 5/6. Very easy and you there are lots of people guiding you all the way.
  • Yeah, stupid website - forgetting your password like that!
  • If you do drive up to Ebbsfleet (you don't need to pre book, just pay at the machine on exit -still £8 though) you have to park in A or B. C is used only for dropping off, buses and taxis.

D used to be £5 for the day, but I'm not sure if that's been changed for the Olympic period.

There are no ticket checks, haven't been for the whole period of the games. There is slight steward overkill at St Pancras, they didn't laugh when I asked them if they were expecting Millwall to turn up?
