Hockey Shoot Out

Did anyone else just see the hockey penalty shoot out?

Five players from each side take on the goalkeeper one-on-one from the 23m line with eight seconds to score. They have to get into the shooting circle as normal, but can have unlimited touches. I thought it was a realy good format, a much better contest between the attacker and keeper, and really interesting to watch.

Yes, we were saying it would be a better way to settle footie games.
    Great variation there wasn't there?
    Some great keeping too.

Didn't the MLS (or precursor) used to have something similar? 1 on 1 from the halfway line or something?
  • Our girls being out played by the Argies in the other semi at the moment.

having seen it in hockey, a version of it for football e.g. 15 seconds from the halfway line, with unlimited touches would be a much better test of footballing skills, rather than nerve.
  • I think the old NASL in the US used to do something similar.

in the shoot out i wondered what would have happened if the keeper when she charged the attacker down had fouled her , does it then become a penalty....

and also there was a girl who had her first shot saved and as she got the 2nd shot off the buzzer went for the end of the 8 seconds and she wasn't sure if she'd scored or not(it wasn't allowed)... if the buzzer had sounded a few hundreths of a second later and a mass stewards enquiry would have been needed

and also being clueless on hockey it appeared they were deliberately trying to win penalty corners by hitting the ball at opponents feet in the penalty area and they can appeal/challenge or whatever it is if they think it's hit the foot and there was one that wasn't given as a penalty corner and the video process took about 3mins odd which seemed an age

Yes, they did, I have seen some on You Tube, it's a much better way of settling games.

Not good for us though, imagine Andy Carroll lumbering I from the halfway line!
