    Andy Murray did sing it!
  • Piers Morgan, that's the same ultra-patriot who published fake photos accusing British troops of abusing Iraqi POW's - thereby putting troops' lives at risk, isn't it?

    Yep, the very same.

He's had a go at people for thinking the above was real! Alanis Morissette, this is what you should've sung about.

I'm in the camp of 'you should sing the anthem', however I do feel as though there is definitely an acceptance for the Olympians for don't. It's a one off instance where they are probably so emotional that they probably can't even think straight. You can tell by the look on their faces and the happiness they're feeling that there is a sense of national pride there. That's for all to see.

Bit of a different situation to footballers not singing an anthem before a game starts.

This was back in Euro 1996 in the Semi-Final against Germany, and just notice the difference.

Our national anthem is an awful embarrassing dirge which simply celebrates the longevity of the monarch rather than the nation and its people

    Fishing for reaction or what

You're the only person to give one apparently.
I agree with East Kent, as it happens. Dull tune, uninspiring lyrics.

I think Felix Sanchez showed the appropriate way to receive a medal.

You dont see an England team sing with that much gusto anymore. Most of us are in the camp of singing the anthem, specially pre match as a gee up - if it works. But as said, not Olympians no, they got too much other stuff going on.

    Seaman's shirt... awful.

I agree with East Kent as well. It's a rare old song that manages to alienate atheists, republicans and music lovers all in one go.

I hate the inference that Wiggins is somehow disloyal to his country because sing the anthem, Morgans such a tool.
  • I wouldn't sing the national anthem because it is a song about the monarchy which I don't necessarily support. Much like I wouldn't sing a song about how wonderful the Tory party is just because it is in power. If sportspeople feel it is something that they believe in singing then fine, if not then that is their choice. Not singing is maybe anti monarchy but definitely not anti Britain.

If you don't support the monarchy and therefore don't sing the anthem then fine. I'm assuming that doesn't stop non religious people celebrating Christmas though right?

Does it really matter and how can anyone say what they would do in that situation, I sing it when I have the chance but I am not in the melting poy of emotion that sports stars are. Even footballers may find it hard prior to an international, everyone is diferrent.

Let's not get away from the point in hand here....

CNN's rating's are at their lowest point in 20 odd years with Piers Morgan Tonight being their flagship prime-time show.....which no-one is watching. He is resorting to ridiculous attempts to stay in the spot light....lets not even give him the time of day.
