Multi award winning lyricist Hal David, best known for his collaboration with composer Burt Bacharach has died at the age of 91.
Bacarach and David are up there with Leiber & Stoller, Lennon & McCartney, Jagger & Richards and John & Taupin as the major partnerships of 20thC popular music.
You'd be surprised at how many songs you know that these two wrote together.

My mum had that Herb Albert record. I used to think it was ok but of course if your mum likes it, it can't really be cool.
How little did I know.0 -
True genius who made all those songs special.
Burt knocked out some good tunes but Hal's work is poetry. Read the lyrics to "walk on by" or many of his other songs without music and they still stand up.
He told a story in four minutes.
A great loss.0 -
I agree with every word. Like Johnny Mercer and Cole Porter, Jim Webb, Bob Dylan and Hank Williams, an American poetic genius RIPHenry Irving said:True genius who made all those songs special.

Sorry Henry; I don't wish to make light of the passing of a rare talent, but does Burt have to die too to merit a less glib dismissal
The beauty of B & D is in the partnership IMO0 -
