Multi award winning lyricist Hal David, best known for his collaboration with composer Burt Bacharach has died at the age of 91.
Bacarach and David are up there with Leiber & Stoller, Lennon & McCartney, Jagger & Richards and John & Taupin as the major partnerships of 20thC popular music.

How little did I know.
Burt knocked out some good tunes but Hal's work is poetry. Read the lyrics to "walk on by" or many of his other songs without music and they still stand up.
He told a story in four minutes.
A great loss.

Sorry Henry; I don't wish to make light of the passing of a rare talent, but does Burt have to die too to merit a less glib dismissal
The beauty of B & D is in the partnership IMO
He also wrote 'To all the girls I've loved before ' with the underated singer songwriter Albert Hammond.
