John Humphrey - Questions Please for Charlton Live

Widely thought by many as the best right back to never play for his country, John Humphrey will be joining us in the studio to record an interview on the evening of the Palace game, any burning questions you want us to put to him?

Comments

  • What did Lennie say to persuade you to sign for us.
  • What's his favourite magic trick?
  • Does he feel it was because he was playing for us and not a big club that he never got picked and did he ever get the opportunity for a move to a bigger club?*

*it was this which largely caused me to lose any interest in following the national team.
  • Does he consider himself Charlton or Palace?
  • Did you really wear our shirt under that stripey thing?? ;-)

A class act and fully agree about the best right back never to play for his country. Loved watching his runs down wing and just a very, very talented footballer.
  • you formed a great defensive backline with mark reid, were you mates as well, or only when playing for the club?
  • Is he happy being in the middle of Bolder & Reid?
  • What was the drinking culture like in his first spell at the club between that group of players?

Which centre halves did you prefer to play with of those who played in the same teams as you at Charlton?

Who's the best player he played against? (Training or Matches)

Who would he have asking him the questions if HE went into the Mastermind chair?
  • Slightly off topic but at the same time relevant with Charlton content of sorts

My apologies in advance to the Forum Police if this has been posted previously....
  • Which footballer currently playing, does he admire most and why?

If he was a wealthy benefactor, which single player would he buy for us?
  • Does he feel Mel Sterland was really a better right back than he was as the England manager thought at the time?
  • What was it like sharing the right-hand side of the field with Charlton legend Ralph Milne?

Was it frustrating having your normally excellent over-lapping runs blocked by Milne's gigantic arse?

Thanks for posting that Len, a good read, interesting subject and worthy perhaps of it's own thread.

Has he ever considered following in Gary Nelson's boot steps by writing a book: 'Right Foot Forward' perhaps. Followad by 'Right Foot in the Grave' to relate his time at Palace?

Wow! That was an incredibly interesting article, I never knew any of that, thanks for posting.

Are you sure there is no EU conspiracy here though Len......:)
  • What inspired you to come up with the Universal Declaration on Human Rights?

Did you enjoy appearing in Are You Being Served?

  • Is it true that you are not that big a football fan?
  • Thanks, keep them coming
  • The first person ever to milk a cow, what the hell did he think he was doing?

    Thanks H
  • Ask him about Lennie only offering Wolves £10k at first...and getting him for £40K (brilliant business even though Wolves were skint at the time).

Ask him about his teaching career. He's done incredibly well since he joined Whitgift School as a football coach with Patesy and Steve Kember. The last time I heard, he was teaching at Highgate School.

He's a great lad and his off field persona couldn't have been more different to his tunnel vision on the field.
  • Was JH ever in "Englands'" thoughts ?
Did Lennie or the English Manager ever mentioned that He was being watched ?
  • Why did he always make one dreadful mistake in every match he played in but was otherwise magnificent ?
  • Do you enjoy presenting Mastermind and what's your most memorable moment on the show? ;-)
  • Did he have a superior fitness level compared to his team mates? It did seem that way. The number of times he ran the right wing at great pace during a game was quite incredible.
