    Happy Birthday Sir Chris!
  • Why drop the Sir ?
It's only banter and a form of respect for a true gent and servant to our club
There's already a Saint Christopher so we can't call him that

And nolly you'll be calling him Sir when he walks away from the den with 3 points in the bag (no chance)

Agreed. It's not my thing but I certainly don't have a problem with it.

It's not offensive in any way shape or form, so what's the problem? It seems that some people will get wound up or have a moan about absolutely fucking anything.

Now that is a good sign. It's my missus birthday today as well and she is a perfectionist. I believe in stuff like that. A good sign I tell ye.

It is Parkys birthday on the 1st December.Happy Birthday Lord Phil Parkinson for the 1st.I am sorry Off it and others but I find all the Sir business a bit cringeworthy. Will he still be Sir if we get hammered by Palace.Football fans are notoriously fickle.
  • He will always be Sir for me (unless he gets cuaght with his hands in the Charlton till !)
First England international little ole Charlton had in my watching life time (since 1976) and someone who has always shown a bit of class and dignity wherever he has been
Still I can't make the blind see and each to his own and all that

On some boards you can have voting - it would be good to get a vote on whether Chris Powell should be called 'Chris Powell' or 'Sir Chris Powell'.

My vote would be to drop the 'Sir' - football fans don't currently have the right to confer titles.

Surely people can call him whatever they want - as long as it's not offensive/illegal, etc?

As I said before, not my cup of tea, but I'm not going to get too worked up about it.
  • Sir lennie Lawrence? Sir Alan curbishley? Etc...

Only on here could a thread saying happy birthday to Powell turn into a debate on what to call him! Classic CL

Still, at least this thread hasn't got questionable racial undertones.
  • Happy birthday chris but he,s not a sir maybe when he wins the world cup with England after leading charlton to champs league for the third season on the trot, but for now it's mr
  • Charlton fans in zero personality/banter/praise for a top player/manager shocker , same mob who prolly thought curbs didn't have enough personality and was stale for the last 6 years of his time with us!!

Oh there was I thinking in real life he has been given the title of a Sir ......

    we'reThey're not worthy ....
  • That cake is great, except we seem to have installed Alvin Hall has our manager - or is he the new finance director? That might explain the spending cuts.
  • And I thought there was only one Victor Meldrew !
