Attracting More Asian/Coloured Fans

I noticed that there was a massive thread on the nigels forum on attracting more of these ethnic minorities...
Noting that Charlton is adjacent to Woolwich and Plumstead; do you think CAFC attracts too little/ the right amount or more than would be expected of these fans?
Could the club do more to advertise to these masses?

    Didn't mean to cause any offense by using the word coloured but strangely enough two of my best mates prefer for other ppl to refer to them as that so can't please everyone...

    Football is common knowledge not as if ethnics dont know about football
    We dont say whites only
    We have a ticket office anyone can walk up to and buy tickets, strangley they are no different to white people

    So if anyone wants to come they can, why should we do anything different.

    I used to sit near a group of 'West Indian Asians' who were devotees of Super Clive Mendonca. I suspect that if we had another 'Asian' superstar more Asian fans would be attracted. Many Black people I know in S London are Arsenal or Liverpool fans .. but they rarely go .. perhaps they're too busy playing sports or partaking in other leisure activities.

    Well said that man, it makes me laugh when you hear the police and the armed forces banging on about this. If a black person wanted to join such a service there is nothing stopping him/her, why do we have to have a recruitment drive?

    the serious answer is that ethnic communities who don't have any long held allegiance to small community based clubs like Charlton, are much more interested in the successful big clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea in London.

    It only highlights difference and causes seperation by singling out different ethnic groups, tree hugging, wishy washy thinking, perhaps we should encourage more eskimos or Navajo Indians as they seem to be under represented?

    I and many others on here I suspect, dont go to many Kabadi matches, I dont see the Indian community reaching out to me, neither do I care if they dont, and am not offended or consider it racist either.

    yes, because it was clearly not said with any form of derogatory intent, was it ? Sometimes we can look for issues that simply aren't there.

    In answer to the OP, I don't honestly think there is much more the club can do outside of its community scheme work. It takes time and generations for things to come through, i know quite a few Asian and black CAFC fans and i think that will simply just continue to grow over time at an evolving rate, not at an enforced one.

    It's not a word that is considered acceptable these days, but some people do still use it, without meaning to cause offence. The issue of offence however, is not whether someone means to cause it, it is whether somebody feels it.

    The use of language is constantly changing and not all sectors of society mix in with the crowd that use the new 'acceptable' terms, so to this end i choose to educate and inform, not criticise and condemn.

    Once upon a time my children would be termed ' half caste', now they are considered 'dual heritage.' To me they are my kids, to them i'm their dad, to the world they are identified by their names.

    Please lets not condemn anyone, as the events in the North Africa are showing, intollerance is very dangerous.

    It grows over time as people have said. A lot of the support for the less successful clubs are based through family ties and roots in an area.

    As ethnic minorities become 3rd, 4th & 5th generation, they will identify more with their area and be more attached to their local clubs rather than blindly following the most successful.

    Likewise, as groups of young friends become more diverse, more are more likely to bring ethnic friends along who will catch the bug. I already notice it a lot at Millwall (where to be fair there are a number of older black fans already).

    Im Sikh, i have a season ticket...you dont need to reach out specifically to certain people- no one did to me!

    Truthfully though most people i know (friends/family etc) support Liverpool, Man U, Arsenal and more recently Chelsea & Man C (basically plastics!).

    I dont know why thats the case but it just seems that way.

    100%, Arsenal, Tottenham & Birmingham have huge ethnic support, Bradford has a large Asian following, Norwich, Ipswich, Plymouth, Exeter etc, all have webbed feet farmers married to their cousins.

    Leicester had a large asian support as well at the Valley, I was waiting outside the club shop for my guests to arrive and there were loads of them, got chatting to a few and they were good lads

    I'm half-Indian. When I first started going to Charlton in the late 80s, I was pretty much the only non-white there. There are quite a few of us now.

    Don't think the club can do any more than it does.
