Cattermole just sent off for Sunderland at MK Dons

"We've been here before. Sunderland midfielder Lee Cattermole is shown a straight red card at MK Dons. Cattermole, charging forward with the ball, takes a poor touch and clatters into Adam Chicksen in trying to retrieve possession." From BBC tonight.

Lee Cattermole of Sunderland total (2009 to 2012): Yellow Card: 28+? Red Card (sent off): 5

Must be some kind of record. Is he just a thug or just misunderstood?

Comments

  • He's useless at tackling and doesn't do much going forward. Massive liability
  • Pards tried getting him for us few years back
  • Bertie Dastard.

    Paul Scholes ?

  • 5 red cards is nowhere near a record . Look at the likes of Graham Roberts or that tosser Kevin Muscat that destroyed more than one footballers careers .
  • Vieira loved a red card too
  • they didn't get theirs necessarily in such a short space of time, though. Record or not, 5 reds in 3 seasons is a lot.

He'd have been a useful player 30 to 40 years ago, but his type midfield thug have pretty much been outlawed these days.

Not to say you can't still have it in you to kick few players, you've just got to be a lot smarter about it than he is.
  • Are those red cards just straight reds/2 yellows? What about the cumulative 5/10 yellow cards that give you match bans?
  • He is, quite simpy, a nutcase. The pity is, he's a good footballer. Like jockeys who are sent to school to learn correct use of the whip, the Cat needs banning until he passes his tackling and 'red mist' avoidance exams.
  • Just seen the incident . He was unlucky to get a red.

  • I don't think he is nasty player or a nutter. Just likes a tackle and over steps the line sometimes. We have seen a lot worse than him over the years.
  • Mark Dennis got sent off 12 times in his career and that was back when you had to actually decapitate someone to get a booking. I think Roy McDonough got around twenty in the same era.
Then there's this guy who managed 6 red cards in one match: news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/south_of_scotland/8521557.stm
