Saw him play in a charity cricket match at the Oval many year ago. He went out to bat in baseball kit with platform boots! At the time he was one of the best known stars in the world, so how they got him along to this event I have no idea.
Can remember seeing him with the Royal Philamonic at an Open-Air Concert in London over 40 years ago. His stunning performance of McArthur Park still lives in the memory after all this time. R.I.P.
......took the in-laws to see him at the Royal Albert Hall a couple of years ago. He still had a fantastic voice and range. There was one song where they ran a film behind him on a big screen showing all the stars he worked with over his career. Every single legend you can imagine seemed to be on there and it was incredibly moving to see in recognising how amazing his career had been. Thanks for the memories Andy. RIP
Altough not my cup of tea musically the man was an excellent singer and entertainer his contribution to popular music will always be remembered. and lets be honest 84 is a pretty good knock!

Apparently he was quite a fan of Bolivian marching powder. But I couldn't verify this. Seems appropriate somehow.
Always used to get him mixed up with Val Doonican.
