Strange this thread should come up as my 11 year old boy watched a documentary / film at school yesterday about the Jack the Ripper and last night at bed time he was petrified to go to bed. After a lot of crying and hugging, we managed to get him back in his own bed but later relented during the night when he came in wanting to snuggle up. God knows what he had watched but I must admit I've got some serious questions about the suitability of such a film or whatever it was for children of his age. Anyway, it was either an American or a Royal Surgeon some say or a bloke who was dying having taken too much arsenic.
you sure it wasn't you who was frightened and had to sleep in his bed<?(%~}>

Also heard this one and on the face of it it would seem very persuasive but when he was arrested in the USA he denied the Whitechaple murders and the records of crews for ships which are still available and are in great detail show him not to be in London on all of the Ripper murder dates. He can be eliminated I think.
The first issue is are all the ripper murders by the same man ? It is argued today at least one isnt.
I seem to remember there are five(?) that pretty much everyone agrees were the same man (or woman) but up to maybe a dozen that some people reckon were also the Ripper. The theory that the guide of the walk I went on was that it was some person none of the 'experts' had ever heard of, probably a butcher with syphilis who blamed Mrs Danny Murphy some prositute for his condition and in his deterorating condition took it out on others.
That theory has been around for years. It's quite compelling, but there was some problem with it, which I must admit I can't remember. Hope that helps.
