London Orient?

Just heard should Orient get the Olympic stadium they will change to London Orient :D. If I was an Orient fan I would be well annoyed. Even though you are essentially the same club it takes away the history.

  • They've changed names a number of times, so it's a bit different in their case.
  • Orient do not get enough fans to fill the hopitality areas at the Olympic stadium never mind the seats

    So true :D

Couldn't agree more what a waste
  • No different from Queens Park in Glasgow.

Good luck to them I say.
  • If I was an Orient fan I would feel a little bit embarrassed about all this Olympic Park rubbish.

Not in a million years are they going to get it, so I really don't understand why they are wasting their time. Just to make a point? Fine. Will count for sod all in the long run.

Whats it got to do with Queens Park? Did they change there name or something similar dude?
  • From what I heard, they are not interested in the stadium, but the area where the Hockey Stadium was, with a smaller capacity

They play at Hampden Park with an average attendance of 703.

  • Queen's Park are a small club playing in massive stadium - national team stadium, in fact

Think the name change is a good idea to attract more support myself. Interested to hear what ORIENT fans think, though

  • At a guess I don't think they agree that the name change is a good idea to attract more supporters...
  • There will be more football tourists for each game than Orient Fans.

    A bit like Fulham really.
  • I would laugh about it, at the very last shareholders meeting which Richard Murray attended. It was mentioned by one of our fans that we should incorporate London in our badge. And at the time believe it or not many fans agreed.
  • Saw Paul Hayes tweet about this earlier, had no idea why they would be thinking of changing names. Makes sense now.

Does anyone really see this move actually taking place?
  • Aren't queens park actually the owners of Hampden though?

I may have made this up, but i always assumed that Hampden was the home of Queens Park, and the scotish national team started using it with QP always being the owner, as it was originally built as their home ground and not scotlands.
  • As long as those cheating twats West Ham don't get a sniff. Rather knock the fecking thing down and that goes for any Premiersh!t team looking for a freebee off the tax payer (Spuds)... Put it back to 25,000 seats like we told the world we would do and let the local club, Orient have it. Also play rugby and 20/20 cricket there, concerts and job done, just not the dildo salesmen please. Rant over
  • Spurs are the only real candidate for the stadium.

Wet spam and orient would never fill it, and both would struggle with the cost of maintaing it thereafter.
  • I think that Queens Park dont actually play at Hampden Park, but they play at the small ground adjacent to the main Hampden park.

London is already incorporated into our badge in the form of a sword.

  • Orient have history?

I have two points to make. One, nobody who already supports a London club is going to tear up their season ticket to go and start supporting League One London Orient.

Two, Leyton Orient's bid for the Olympic Stadium is on the condition of a groundshare with West Ham which West Ham have already said they have no interest in doing. How was their bid even allowed? It's like Millwall bidding for it to share with us without even asking us.

    Stupid Idea.

Every club has some history to be fair , alright they don't have as much as others but they would lose it all
  • No one apart from Orient are legally allowed to get it though (I think) as there is some rule that states you can't have a new ground within 2 miles of an existing one and The Matchroom Stadium is within two miles of the Olympic stadium anyway.

If another team gets it will probably destroy Orient's fan base even further and lead to their decline. IMO no one should get it as it would destroy Orient and no one (bar Tottenham) would come even close to filling it.
  • I like Leyton Orient, always enjoy visits to Brisbane road, good humoured and real. I like the tenacity of the club and the loyalty of their support. Don't want them to relocate though...but you never know, if they can charge silly cheap money and up their crowds, and make a bit on food and drink and such it might have a mini roller-coaster effect.
If i were a floating football fan in London, I might prefer to roll down to the Olympic Stadium to see 'London' Orient play Sheffield United for £8 than go to Tottenham to see them play Wigan for £48.
