You only sing when your winning?!?0

Not much of an achievement against Fulham! Do they have any real fans!? They have a stand for neutral fans!shine166 said:

VFR was sung twice in the first halfkillerandflash said:
Well I heard very little from the Covered End choir on Saturday. No VFR until the second half for example.Greenie Junior said:The thing is I often end up with a soar throat after a match day and yet often I come on here and see people saying atmosphere was poor, I know thy the covered end is relied upon to start songs off and we do most the time but a lot of the time others don't join in so it can't be just down to us
We do occasionally have a good atmosphere, Huddersfield last season for example, where the whole crowd was signing, Sheff Utd was good too.

Oh dear.smudge7946 said:Maybe those of us that sit in the upper west should start the singing.
We pay the for the benefits for those in the upper north, so we might
as well do there job for them.0 -
some people really cant take a joke on here!0

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
It's chicken and egg. It needs something on the pitch to ignite the crowd.
That didn't happen on Saturday.0 -
Still waiting
Or maybee somone else can explain as i seem to be missing the point?0 -

The atmosphere was poor Saturday, I'd put it down to Football for a Fiver as there were clearly a lot of neutrals.0

Why think youre too old for upper North...I'm a pensioner and absolutely love belting it out in NU.0

I doubt you're missing the point! Im presuming it was an attempt at humourfloydroadfaithfull said:Still waiting

Christ knows what they think of me. You're still a baby at 46!

Singing has to start with 11 players showing us how much they want it. If they had sung on Saturday it would probably be in appreciation of the smallest man on the field.0
-
Can't see how that would make it worse than usual though, surely all the regulars would still be thereBR7_addick said:The atmosphere was poor Saturday, I'd put it down to Football for a Fiver as there were clearly a lot of neutrals.

I assume smudge was a) joking and b) making a reference to a west stand season ticket costing a lot more than a north stand ticket0
-
True but I meant for a 26k crowd it was very quiet.colthe3rd said:

I think the point is that the North Upper is full of pikeys. And it smells bad up there. The day they start washing and contibuting more to the club by buying a seat in the Upper West will be the day the Upper West takes on their role of singing the incest song at every team that comes down to the Valley.floydroadfaithfull said:Still waiting

Is that any clearer now?
;o)

Sadly, very true.CrayAddick said:You only sing when your winning?!?
Like Dave55 and several others on here, I was part of the Covered End through the 70s and early 80s.
You stood there because that was where the singing and atmosphere was created - everyone joined in.
We didn't stand in silence, we didn't wait until the team scored - we sang throughout the match because that was what the Covered End did.
And when we did score, the dancing and singing "Knees up, Muvver Brown" was something else!
I suppose today, with everyone sitting down, it makes people less animated.
But the enigma seems to be that it's our same quiet North Upper fans when travelling away, who often make such a brilliant atmosphere.

I remember the old Valley too Oggy.
Unfortunately I think your mind migh be playing tricks on you in your old age if you think it was some sort of cauldron of noise every home game!0 -
lol Off_it.
It wasn't the most successful period in Charlton's history - but we didn't wait for the team to score before we started singing.
If we had, we would have waited all bloody afternoon!
We were in the Covered End to have a good time. And if the match was rubbish we still had a singsong and a laugh.
You didn't get the singing on the East Terrace or the old Grandstand.
It was the Covered End that did that.0 -
I could probably count on one hand the number of times it has actually been loud from our own fans.BR7_addick said:
