  • for the first time in my adult life I haven't voted. This is my protest at a waste of our money for another layer of bureaucracy and candidates I know nothing about. By abstaining I hope I help to ensure that there is a low turnout which will show what a farce it all is.

Gilbert not loons from the left then ? it of course wouldnt actually be a well known (for DECADES)a tool of the extreme left to target low voting areas--such as Union reps etc etc or it of course wouldnt be a tool of left wing TOOLS to scream racists at he top of their collect voices !

Its wrong to have these positions voted for END of. As far as is possible these positions should (and NEED) to be above politics.

You're right, of course, @Goonerhater. Anyone fancy a Respect PCC for example?

These should not be political roles in any way.
  • I operated a Polling Station in Walton on Thames for 15 hours and took 110 votes out of a possible 1300 in that ward. Shocking. That's 8.46%
  • Er....doesnt the current system already makes these political roles?
Not that I have the slightest interest in it, but from what little I know, isnt it one directly elected person replacing an existing committee of a dozen or so local councillors who have no experience or background in policing?
  • I totally forgot about it.

Why do they not say on TV and Radio if you'd like to vote today please do.
If I had been reminded I would have voted.

Just heard on the radio, that one polling station was open for 15 hrs and took no votes!!

Just voted. Too many people have suffered to allow me that right and I'd feel guilty if I hadn't.

    That's why I voted.

I contemplated spoiling my paper but eventually voted in a way that would not be pleasing to the Establishment.

I thus used the hard fought for voting process to express a dissenting opinion.

Tories have lost to the independent in Kent by the look of it. Good luck to her. Turnout 16.3%.
  • Wasnt this a key Tory idea re crime etc? weird that they put next to no real effort in?
  • Worked a polling station in Maidstone yesterday. Turnout was approx 6% and the fact one of our poll clerks was ex local ob, meant that he verified just how many current and ex ob were voting as he seemed to know everyone. They obviously had a vested interest.

Madness and a terrible waste of money though. Glad the independent got in, though it sounded like Medway fucked up the counting today!!

In an interview today the newly elected PCC for 'Humberside' has suggested that the name 'Humberside Police Force' is outmoded and unpopular. He suggests a name change to 'Humber Police'. It seems we have a newly elected dickhead on our hands. The force has to save millions from its budget over the next two years, yet a priority might be a hugely expensive rebadging exercise. Although, come to think about it, he might just issue each officer with a broad tipped felt tip pen and tell them to graffiti out any trace of 'side' from existing stationery, literature, badges, emblems, flags, signs and Police station blue lamps.

    What! A pen each?
    :-)
  • The only good thing about this was John Prescott falling on his arse.

Other than that a complete waste of money although it keeps the missus in a job with overtime money so no complaints here.

^^^ I did .. Humberside had one of, if not the highest turnouts .. around 20%
  • How much was the rebranding of the RUC? - an obvious necessary exercise.

I must admit after looking at Grove's publicity documentation he doesn't mention it and speaks of "Tough Economic times", but then nothing surprises me with politicians.

It was probably the highlight of the year on Humberside :-)

  • ......and now the madness starts, long-serving senior police officer forced out by incoming Police Commissioner.

This whole thing is going to bite Cameron on the arse big time, this has the stench of debable all over it and you could well see a lof of pissed off coppers taking legal recourse against this sort of action by the commissioners - costing the taxpayer and absolute packet.

The low turnout means these people have very little credibility - and yet Cameron owns them lock, stock and barrel - everything they do will be under a microscope and he will have to cope with the blowback.

The Police Union are going to push back very strongly against this - does Cameron really want to take on the Police whilst he is in a Minority government? A very bad idea.
