Whenever it snows in the UK people post things like this. They say how travel grounding to a halt and people not being able to school is ridiculous when places like Scandinavia and Canada deal with far worse conditions for months on end.
Did they not get the memo? Are they not in on it?
Of course we could function when there is a light dusting of snow, but it's just one big con and we're all in on it. It's a great excuse to stay at home, put your feet up and do f*** all. Them mugs over on the continent or over in North America just didn't get in on it early enough.
If that's Canada, someone want's to let all those drivers know they are on the wrong side of the road.
The thing is those countries spend big on support infrastructure to deal with it as it happens every year all over the country.
There is a financial balancing act to be done with budgets (whoever is in power) - and given the relative infrequency of such conditions in the U.K. we do not invest heavily in it.
We certainly have more gritter lorries and snow ploughs etc, but it takes several days after a big dump of snow before anything but the major roads get cleared. If we get lots and lots of snow, the City will eventually come a clear some of it away to snow storage sites, but in the meantime, we all manage to get by - we certainly don't get to take any time off while we wait for the City to do its thing. We get through by a) fitting appropriate tyres for the seasons, b) (more people) knowing you can't drive the same way in snow as you can on a summer's days, but mostly c) just getting the chuff on with it.
By law I have to shovel snow off the pavement around my house, but there is probably more snow on my driveway than on the M25 right now but I still manage to get on it every evening and off it every morning.

Met Office is most accurate and they have spits of snow / drizzle that likely won't make the ground wet so all good (in Surrey anyhow)
Not sure about Chartlon being further east. Either way this isn't proper settling snow so sure it will be fine.
EDIT - Charlton looks predominantly dry.

Where Barrow lead, Charlton follow.
