Bucket list

Things you wana do before you die.

Not a fan of the film but I like the thought of having a list.

My main thing that I want to do is save money up so I can have flying lessons. Preferably in a small plane.

I'm very far away from that at the moment and a lot things are more important but that is my goal.

What is your "bucket list" or dream things you want to do before your gone?

Fly in a spitfire. There are a few that gave been converted to 2 seaters but the regulations have changed and can't be hired for pleasure flights (not that I"d have the money anyway)

That and have a go in an old F1 car, one with a conventional gear stick.

OK, here's a genuine offer to all Lifers. If i win the jackpot in Friday's Euromillions, I'll randomly pick one of these and pick up the bill. Covered End, start planning that trip to Herne Bay...

Done something similar for my father in law a while back, wasn't a spitfire but a different ww2 plane, at Shoreham airfield
Wasn't too expensive, think it was about £100 but it was 14 or so years ago!

Yep, I'd have that and with the kids ideally.

It'd be awesome dude - genuinely would love it. Did a tour of Devon and Cornwall in a VW camper a few years ago and that was fun.

  • Spent 3 weeks doing Route 66 a couple of years ago. That was a rush. If you ever do the US Coast to Coast then give yourself as much time for lots of diversions. Some of the bits in the middle can be boring as hell especially if you have time constraints and have to get the miles in.

I want to cycle it someday but will need to get a lot fitter than I currently am.

i did mine in 6 weeks, then again that was new jersey to LA and back again. Wouldve preferred it to be 12 weeks to be honest and spend at least twice as long in some places. The national parks are incredible and even the long stretches of road in south dakota, nevada and texas were worth it for the beauty outside the window.

www.trekamerica.com is how i did it, was only 19 at the time so couldnt do anything wild really. Tour guides are awesome and you usually have a decent bunch with you. Wanna do it again but by myself/with my future wife at my own pace at some point. Honestly love the states and the majority of the people. Shame its the ones with the power and money over there that are the nutjobs.

Looked at TrekAmerica but never had a decent amount of time off school/work etc to do it!

Would probably go for their routes a little but do it myself instead, or with mates etc. Looked at New Orleans up through Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Nevada into California and back along the coastal highway to Mexico.

See a lot of the National Parks that route, Monument Valley, Zion National Park, Glen and Grand Canyons. Can do New Orleans that way which looks a cool City, Area 51 (more for the experience that actually believing it, Vegas (Penn and Teller and fountains more than gambling!), LA, San Francisco, Old Wild West ghost towns, Texas in general....

But Bucket List-wise it's a dream so maybe the East Coast etc too!!

I'm surprised that nobody has suggested cocaine, speed, booze and a hotel room full of hookers/pornstars.

Did all those, look at doing the grand trek which is what i did. You'll spend time in all of those places.
  • @gary... I learned to pilot a bobsleigh here at the Whistler Olympic track (fastest in the world at the moment, though I hear Sochi will be faster). It's absolutely f*ing mental. I ended up doing about 30 runs and was still scared sh**less every time the light went green and they pushed me down into the track. There's 16 corners, they would only let me start from corner 3 after the training... still hit 100mph around the last corner.

If you're ever over this way you can go down the track for $159... well worth it.

  • Solo parachute jump / sky dive is definitely on my bucket list, done a tandem, but love the idea of being in control of my own destiny.

Another one, which I don't think I have the balls to do, is to surf a monster wave... such as Teahupoo / Mavericks or Pipeline. Think I'm too old to get good enough to hit that sort of wave now.
