  • The commentators got it spot on with Dernbach. His variations (often it seems variation for variation's sake, rather than some coherent plan) are effective at the death, but he seriously needs to work on his bowling with the new ball. That means more control, fewer variations, and a better plan on when to use the variations.

Simiarly, Patel is coming good with the bat, but needs to work on his bowling and fielding. He was out-bowled by Root, and his fielding is just poor.

Agree he (Dernbach) needs to try & bowl around wicket more at left handers, too many down leg side.

  • Excellent win, considering no Anderson, Swann or Broad plus others.

Cracking game .. shame that Tredwell is competing with Swann for a regular place as he is - and always does - performing well. Dernbach .. sorry, I don't see how he keeps his place, good looking lad, nice hair, nice tats, rubbish bowler .. ou, perhaps he is the best of an indifferent second string .. Joe Root, a revelation as a spinner .... the batting was solid as well as aggressive, what a difference a committed Pietersen makes ( he MUST have had major issues with Strauss) ... all in all a good start to what will be a competitive series
  • Why do we persist with Dernbach? IMO he is useless

    Oops! :-)
    2-69 hardly adequate

    - I acknowledge he didn't use the new ball well but weighed in with two important wickets late on and saw out the last over. 'Useless' is an emotive word though, see Henry's concurrent posts on the Salim Kerkar thread.
  • And one of Kent's finest deservedly gets the MOTM award !!
  • It would have been nice to have Monty bowling out there, I know he's not a good fielder, but 10 overs of his economical spin would have been very useful on that pitch.
