The Times is running a piece today about this latest proposal coming out of Qatar. Basically they want to run a bi-annual tournament with 16 (4 EPL) perminent teams getting up to £175m each plus 8 others each time by invitation.
What do we think then Lifers? Bad news in that it could enlarge the gap between the haves and have nots even more and hasten the move to full time 'super leagues'? Good thing that it means we get a condensed version of the Champions League and don't have to wait until the knockout stages have finished before it gets interesting?
Would normally discount this sort of thing that crops up as a pipe dream that would get killed by UEFA/FIFA before it gets off the drawing board but that's a huge amount of money and the Qataris do seem to have a knack of getting what they want.
