Charlton v. Millwall Post-Match News & Views 2013

Hurts for me because I think this team, this manager and these supporters deserved a few breaks and a win. But life ain't like that!

Over to you.

if only that chance from Wilson had gone in, if it had been them it'd have gone in twice

thought we were the better of two crap teams up until then, once they scored we were awful

Like I said in the other thread, the final ball, whether it be a shot or pass is absolute shit!

Gotta get a keeper.....difference between 2 crap teams
  • Probably a knee jerk reaction but this result seems to sum up Charlton at the moment. Shambles.

I think Powell knows this - a lot of players well above their natural level, but with no investment what can the guy do - we looked up for it early doors but as you say absolutely no quality

think we have to scrap out another 5 points or so & then wait with bated breath the true fate of our club which will become obvious over the summer months

We played OK in the 1st half but the 2nd half performance was clueless. We look so weak going forward that you just know we are never going to score, however long we play. The Millwall defence, superbly led by Danny Shittu, was pretty much untroubled for the whole game. Very, very disappointing performance. We will do well to stay up this year.

Fucking joke. No quality in that team. Pritchard's game started well and finished as worse as you can possibly get.
    Was jackson even out there?
Wilson what does he fucking do?
Why did haynes not look interested?
Why did shittu look like fucking pique?
Complete joke most of those players are playing way out the level they should be out

Its all huff and puff and no quailty in this team, that may be working at home but its certainly not working at home.

Played well enough for the first hour but we got ragged, lacking composure on the ball after we went behind.
We didn't get any breaks today - 3 good chances that wouldn't go in for us before they scored.

They nicked a goal with only their 2nd chance and followed it up with a wonder goal that would hit Row Z nine times out of ten.

And that was all we saw from Millwall.

I see one or two turning on chrissy powell again in match threat!! Midfield is shite end of!! Thats why gowers been signed on loan! Pritchard can run and run but isnt great with the ball!! Jacko battles ok but its just not good enough!! Powell has been given nothing by the board to work with yes it hurts lots to lose to THEM but turning on powell is not the way to go!!

Even taking this into consideration, it was still woeful...

I expected this. Doesn't get any easier to take, but we've never been good against them.

A view from my armchair .. we sign Gower, he does not get a place, even on the bench .. Millwall sign Chaplow and Easter, they are the men who turned the game.
  • Anyone know what the trouble was with haynes and the fans?

If we stay up I honestly wouldn't give two craps if powell left. The football we play is dire even when we win, a couple of wins here and there shouldn't hide the fact that we play some of the worst football in this league.

They are probably the second worst team I've seen at the Valley this season. I don't think I need to say who the worst is

maybe he is not fit - why risk him for the rest of the season if he needs another week to be ready

Didn't think we deserved to lose that game. I thought it was a scrappy, close game without many chances. Shittu had a great game for them. I thought Harriot had a good game, think he could turn into a cracking player. Apart from that noone stood out as particularly good or bad for us. You could tell that we had the will to win it (esp in first half) but we didn't seem to have the composure or creativity in the final third.

Just about sums it up for me. We just lack that bit of class.
  • Should never have lost this game. Millwall are shocking and were there for the taking. We lack the quality to finish off teams like this. We were a bit unlucky with the kermorgant free kick and lawrie wilson at the far post but if they dont go in what do you expect. The long ball tactic is pointless. I have no doubt we will still be in the Championship next season but need some major changes for next as this team will not survive.

Someone probably justifiably called him a lazy tosser with a shit attitude and he didn't like it. He was pathetic today

4 games against our local rivals this season - 1 point out of 12.

In Powell we trust - my arse.

Deserved something from the game at least. Played the better of the two teams for the first 60ish minutes as said above then just completely went off the boil after they scored their second. They went near our goal once and scored two goals somehow...

Think stick for Jackson is a bit harsh after that performance, think he passed it around nicely at times and can't fault anyone for effort really. We got ourselves into a few good situations and messed up the final pass or just seemed to let their defence take it off us at times. I don't see how Haynes managed to lose the ball so many times to Shittu as well, just seemed ridiculously lightweight.

Thought the effort was there tbf. Lot of closing down chasing back big tackles, looked as if they knew they were in a derby. Didn't seem to be a link between the front two and midfield. They scored against the play and then scored a worldy. If Wilson's had gone in it would have been a different story. Ifs are no good though.
