Been a couple of times and stayed at more expenesive hotels but Excalibur is the best! Good choice.
However, with the recent down turn the last time was not the same. The month we were there they reported that 500 people's houses were being repossesed PER DAY. The casinos made a lot of cut backs in the numbers of people just 'floating around' ie those handing out free drinks, perfoming (esp Circus Circus) and those that remained became much more about the hard sell. That was a couple of years a go so I hope its turned around now.

Glad to hear its a good choice for hotel, i assume mainly for where it is as i wont be in it much :)

I haven't heard anything about it going downhill at all, so touchwood its back to before
  • Ace FX on London Bridge walk cannot be beaten for currency rates if you are nearby. If not, for the amount you are taking, the train fare up will probabaly cost more than the difference from a post office.

I work in croydon but drive in and live in Sevenoaks, but thanks anyway Tails Sonic
  • last time i was there i stayed at the wynn, had more than enough to keep me occupied and dont think i actually left the hotel
  • Just got back a few weeks ago from my first ever trip. Mainly went to play poker. Pick up a few tournament schedules from the various casinos you visit and compare which one suits you. If you get a chance to play cash games, I recommended the mirage. Played from 1-2 to 3-6 and the games were pretty soft. Although these will certainly be out of your range if your taking £1000. Learn how to play craps if you don't know already, by far the best game out there!
  • have fun! my fam has a condo just outside LV, 20mins away in a town called Henderson, so i travel to LV 4-5 times a year mainly to golf. there are some great golf courses for cheap if your into that johnnybev ...

Best boys holiday I've ever been on back in 2011.

Stayed in Planet Hollywood, which was top drawer but the best hotel has to the Wynn which also has the best club in!

Best clubs Tryst and XS Lounge, best I've ever been to.

Took £1500 which converted to $2500 roughly spending money for 5 nights and came home with about $100.
  • I know I'm in the minority - but I really didn't like the place. I'm not much of a gambler so that probably doesn't help.

It all just seemed too false to me. I'd much rather go to a "proper" city - NY, Chicago, LA etc.

I was out there for Mayweather vs Hatton which was great. I'd go there again for a big fight, but not just for the sake of going.

Must admit, this was my feeling BEFORE i went to LV, however, once i was there it was so OTT it was totally brilliant - was only going to stay 1 night, ended up staying 5. Stayed at MGM which was ok (and cheap) - room was great.
I'm not a great gambler, but the shows were incredible. Do they still do the regular Treasure Island Pirate battle every night?
  • Going in October for the 1st time looking forward to it

  • Love the place, I've been a few times- there's nowhere like it.
While your there spend an evening in Fremont street, mega light show experience, street performers, rock bands and much more, great free entertainment, you get there by bus from the strip.
For cash look at Fairfx probably a bit late for one of their cash cards( which I used recently on a 8 month round the world trip) but they also supply cash and their exchange rate is always competitive. Do not buy dollars at the airport always a rip off. Have a great time.
  • Disneyland for adults...once you've been you realise it's somewhere you had to visit or you would have missed out on one of life's great experiences
  • How much is the flights and accommodation for the week if you don't mind me asking johnny?

    Sorry for late reply @willtheaddick

Not a problem we booked through expedia for 6 days leave England tomorrow 12:30, 9 hours and change at Minestota for 3 hour flight. We come back on Thursday their time 3:30 but arrive Friday cost £680 for both flights & hotel. it was varying up to £800 when we kept checking but think saved £100 with the change.
  • how was it?

Unbelievable Jeff, i will try to expand more later but basically alot of gambling, alot of poker sort of the same but i seperate them, drinking from 7-8am and a couple of heavy nights. Wasn't long enough so will go for 2 weeks next year, at work so cant really give more detail yet :)
  • ok mate not a problem, im off on the 22nd september so would be handy to know how much money to take etc. just give us a post when youre free mate.

It depends how much you want to lose :-)

All depends on how much of a gambler you are, and depends on if you want to go on helicopter rides, canyon tours and watching shows.

When I eventually get back to Vegas I will hopefully take no less then 2k spending money with me.

I've always taken £1,500 - £2,000 for the 4/5 day trips I've gone on. Not a massive gambler but do like a few hours at tables.

Two times I've come back with £1,000+ down to more luck than judgement (including a £300 win on a slot machine in the departure lounge!)

  • Done 1500 in five nights which included tables at two top clubs, a pricey on indeed but well worth it!
  • Jeez, I see the current climate of austerity is really biting with some Lifers!

I think I blew about $20 on the roulette when I was there but I still had a great time.
