I think train spotters are part of our culture like Morris Dancers...we should embrace their strange ways.1

It's been going on for 80 years longer than anyone thought it seems - since 1861. Oddly the first known train spotter was a girl!

Remember her, she used to stand to the top right of the Covered End. Took 14 Spanners out with one swipe of her clipboard, we lost the match of course!

Not quite the same but I used to work with a Millwall season ticket holder who would go through the bins at London Bridge station every morning to find discarded newspapers. He looked like Captain Pugwash.0

There’s a guy in TikTok called Francis Bourgeois or something like that. I can’t work out if he is for real or not but he is a bit of a fanatic to say the least! We’ll worth watching him1

I genuinely think he's for real rather than on a wind up, just a bit unfortunate when he does that camera angle showing his reactions as being so close to the camera effectively fisheye's his face.
Fully expected him to get the typical reactions on twitter given how much of a cesspit it can be... But if he is genuine he's one of the better people out there, as a lot of people respond saying they wished they had that much enthusiasm for interests.

@ForeverAddickted that fisheye is what makes his videos so great imo
his excitement just cracks me up
good luck to him.1 -

I can’t lie - I’m a little bit obsessed with Francis Bourgeois! He just makes me happy

The falling off his chair in excitement video, and seeing Dick Mabbutt, had me absolutely creasing.
Apparently he's giving up his job to become a trainspotter full time (I'd imagine endorsements and sponsored ads from TikTok etc will make him enough money to get by)1 -

Steam loco at our own Charlton station.
Whoever knew it was once called Charlton Junction?
