Sorry for Posh

I do feel a bit sorry for them. They looked a decent enough side. The had a terrible start but turned it around and gave games a real go. 54 points should have you comfortable.

This year, the league has been the most competitive I can remember. The top two were far from outstanding and the bottom sides, apart from Bristol could beat anybody on their day. I think it has to be looked back on as a very satisfying one for us.

  • Gutted it's not smallwall who deserve to be there.
  • Can't stand Darren Fergusson so no regrets
  • Agreed seven minutes to go and it all turns sour, feel sorry for them and thought they were a decent footballing team.

This. If I'm not mistaken, his dad has helped him out on a number of occasions also.
  • I Don't understand the hate for Ferguson . I think he comes across very well and is usually magnanimous in defeat . There are a lot worse managers in the championship than him. In my opinion.
  • Agree with Bedsaddick, despite Fergusons provenance and history I reckon he is a decent manager at posh, they play attacking football, and he never publically moans or disrespects his players it seems to me.
Also posh is a good away day.

There are problems between Barry Fry and Ferguson which he made public earlier in the season.
  • I dont feel sorry for any of the teams that get relegated do u think they felt sorry for our demise

Pboro can feel hard done by that last season they wouldve stayed up by 14 points but that should be a warning to everyone next season
  • I can't bring myself to feel too sorry for Posh as if you make the same mistakes over and over and over the sympathy dries up. They always score lots of goals and play attacking football, but concede a lot as they can't defend. I respect they've committed to a good style, but after all this time they're still making basic, basic errors at the back. Conceding from too many set-pieces, air-kicking in the box, getting their positions all wrong and getting in each others' way. They needed to beat a Palace side who were struggling for confidence and goals. After they scored they should have been tighter and more careful at the back, but the goals they conceded just weren't good enough. As a result neither were Posh. If Ferguson still can't sort that out then they need new ideas in there
  • Let's be honest (no disrespect to the posh), but their level is L1 with the odd flirt in the championship..............

I liked their approach to games, proper gung-ho ..... they always knew they were likely to concede, so went for goals themselves.

They had a shocking start to the season - 7 straight defeats.
If they had gained just a single draw from that start, they wouldn't have been relegated.

  • Although there are, and can be, no false positions after 46 games, Peterborough can count themselves very unlucky after achieving 54 points. Even Palace's winner came from a free kick that never was.

From a purely selfish viewpoint, it's also a damn good trip, with an away terrace behind the goal and lots of good real ale pubs.

I expect that, as the vultures start to circle, players like Gayle ( who's done very well after signing from D and R ), Tomlin (the chubby little midfielder) and one or two others will attract interest, as Peterborough prepare to trim their sails for League 1. Trading on the misery of others is an integral part of football life; I remember that we picked up the great John Humphrey and John Pender for a combined £100,000 after Wolves dropped into the third division in 1985.
  • We'd be gutted if we went down on 54 pts.
This season, apart from Bristol City, it was going to end it tears for some team - must be the oddest season in Championship history.
    Hope Posh bounce straight back
  • Unlucky to go down, yesterday was such a bizarre day. As Rod Liddle said in his ST article today (mentioned in another thread) only 2 teams deserved to leave this division, Cardiff and Bristol City...
  • ...and Wolves.
  • Peter who?
  • Imo its not unlucky to go down on 54 points. The bottom 3 go down. Even if they have 62 points.

Yeah. Tomlin is actually Paul Scholes in a fat suit.
