Could SCP just go?

If the club are in such dire straights, as many posts would have us all believe. is it possible taking into account how much he loves our club. And yet the apparent complete lack of support upstairs, that chris decides going somewhere else may be better for his career. Could we as fans really blame him?..for me not being in the know, I would not be surprised if this was to happen.... think it would be a disaster actually!!!.

yet again henry you are wrong, just wondering how patient chris has to be?0

A good job offer would have to be made first. I know CP loves this club but its football and stranger things have happened.
In fact i think it would have to be an offer he couldn't refuse.0 -
stonewall, i agree. im hoping the club can match scp ambition, but its not looking that way.0

This or he is pushed so far he feels he has no option. No sign in Chris's body language or demeanour that I can see thank goodness.

Well if I was a chairman looking for a manager he'd be in the top one of my list. Be afraid!0

sorry to bore you covered end! to think a small discussion is going to rock any boats, is just as deluded as the high esteem the charltonlife police hold themselves in. when applying for membership to cl, there was no box asking to provide charlton history and credentials.you do not speak for everyone.... its a forum for discussion.if you do not want to discuss ....dont comment!0

I had hoped it would be sept or october before we discussed this
Good point well made imo No he wouldnt
But he very well could based on the lack of opportinity to improve
His stock would only rise with a top half finish this season with no money to spend or with a team of freebies and wise loans with the added injection of a few youth players so for this reason i think he would stay
I love the man but football os a ruthless horrible place and scp knows that and sometimes you jump if the right opportunity arises as it may never come rd twice0 -
Kind of agree with Paul fox, there are a few hundred posters on here but 10s of thousands turn up every week at the valley, CL holds itself in higher esteem than it actually is IMO.0

I must say, I pretty much agree too.kentaddick said:Kind of agree with Paul fox, there are a few hundred posters on here but 10s of thousands turn up every week at the valley, CL holds itself in higher esteem than it actually is IMO.
I don't exactly see the issue with this topic either; it's quite clear what it's going to be about before you click on the title. I'm also going to assume I'm not the only one who's pondered this before.
I know if I was going in to work everyday and working with a lack of resources - yet I was being expected to compete with rivals who had a lot more than me, rivals who may even have a possible job for me... I'd probably be having words with myself.
But there are still positive signs coming out I think; the staff doing their UEFA License qualifications together etc.0 -
We need to get away from the thinking that the owners, or any body who was to take over the club, can just throw money around at players.
Financial Fair Play has kicked in now, and clubs have to live within their means.
So, if the club wanted a large transfer budget they could do it by selling players with a substantial cash value, like Solly, or substantially increase season ticket prices.
And how would supporters react to that?
Priority MUST now come with the development of academy players, as this is one of the aspects of a football club that is NOT covered by FFP.0 -
There's no evidence at all the club could generate a large transfer budget by substantially increasing season ticket prices - indeed numbers disclosed so far this year suggest that significant increases reduce sales, offsetting the revenue gain per ticket. That doesn't mean the price increases were wrong and I don't believe that they were. However, the net effect is probably increased revenue of £250k, which will be swallowed up by the existing operating loss.0

I admire Chrissy Powell greatly, and I'm sure he is widely respected throughout the game. It's almost inevitable that at some stage he will be tempted by offers from elsewhere. We did quite well to finish just three points off the play-offs. Yet it's hardly likely that we the fans will want him to manage us for ever; don't forget that at 0-2 down to Bolton at The Valley last season we were in severe danger of having to battle against relegation. I thought Powell's strategy of playing 4-5-1 at home for several months put undue pressure on a weak midfield and contributed to a succession of crucial defeats. Chris's departure, when it comes, could be for any number of reasons, including lack of resources and lack of support from the top.0

I think chrissy knows he is in a position of safety at the moment,he has total support of the fans. Admittedly he did have some managerial shockers last year, but its early days in his career and kind of got away with them.its undeniable the feel good factor is back ,too a certain extent, which is down to powelly.hope he gets the support he deserves because he is making more good decisions than bad which will eventually attract other clubs.........as for the page, i think there are a few people that do not particularly like my honest views, could be sabotage!!! but hey lol,we dont have to agree on everything. other than supporting the addicks!!!!.....hope we sign someone soon tho!0

Good points, paulfox - it's a two-way relationship between us and Powelly: he knows he has our support and I respect him for thanking us for not getting on the team's back during those grim home defeats last season. But circumstances can change quickly, as proved by our flirting with relegation one week and nibbling at the play-offs virtually the next. As a paying customer I reserve the right to make my feelings known - and I'm glad of everyone's honest views. Say what you mean and mean what you say.0
