CAFC Player(s) to watch out for this season?

Powell seems to know what he wants/the club needs.. some promising players, as usual, in and coming out the academy..who would you say are the most promising and who would you say to look out for?

    I would love to see yann get a Full season. I think he can do some serious damage as he showed in the final third of last season.

    It may be a funny thing to say, but I would be worried if we have to rely too much on any academy players. Our defence is our strong point, so none will get in there. Other than Bradley Jordan (who won't get ahead of Jacko, Gower, Pritch etc) there is nobody who stands out in midfield. That just leaves up front where we all know we have got ourselves in a right mess. So by default, you would say Pigott maybe. But we need at least 2 more senior strikers in the next couple of weeks as I don't think he or smith are ready to start in the championship.

    Callum harriott. A full season of that kid and we are laughing. Transformed our team and style of play when he got a run of games towards the end of the season

    Never seen Diego Poyet play but read a few comments on here from those that have that he is a bit overrated,

    Does he have genuine promise or is he living off his old mans name?

    I agree. He is a passionate hungry kid, we have lacked the sort of player. I think he can only improve, him and rhoysy on the left is dangerous, and fast!

    I think it is the other way around ie that the expectations of him are much higher because of his name.

    I don't think it's fair to suggest he's living off his dads name. He's not at his dad's club and he's won England caps. He was also part of successful youth teams at Charlton. You don't do that if all you have is a name.

    He's only just become a first year professional. Forget the surname and just judge him on his abilities. He may or may not make it but if anything it is harder for him because he is called Poyet.

    I'd play him RM personally. I think it worked well last season and helps the central midfielders too. Solly is more than capable of supporting so we don't really lose much attacking width and Pritchard is one of our better crossers - despite clearly not being a winger.

    Yeah I agree plus the amount of assists Pritchard got last season suggests we didnt lose any attacking threat at all! Now he has found his goal scoring touch im expecting to see between 5-10 goals. I think bringing Green on as an impact players can work quite well 2.

    On the contrary, I think he's under-rated due to having illness or injury at important times. IMO he's a top prospect, but of course time will tell.

    I don't buy into the worshipping of Pritchard. True, he is improving, but he frequently misplaces his passes and gets knocked off the ball far too easily. He and Stephens made a very poor midfield that was responsible for many of those dismal home defeats last season.

    im interested to see how Lawrie Wilson plays this season. He had some quality moments and some not-so-great moments last season.

    What a relief I'm not alone in failing to see the appeal of Pritchard, who may be a very nice chap and all that, but I just don't think he's skilful or strong enough for an ambitious Champs team. My pal is of the same mind, but such is the admiration for Pritchard on this site that I was beginning to wonder if it was ironic, whether he fulfilled the role of folk-hero a la Leaburn. True, he's improving, but his early games with us were very poor indeed, conceding possession at the drop of a hat. I was staggered when Powell gave him a two-year contract.

    Pritch is a great little player, real engine and 100% effort. Has become more creative and stronger. Reckon he will be key this coming season.

    Don't remember Pritchard struggling early on? He was excellent on his debut and usually did well when called upon in League 1.

    Last season he played a big part in our success and he deserves his place at right midfield. As well as his energy he got a good number of assists last season. I think he'll keep improving and we'll see more goals from him this season.

    I just don't get it. Sometimes I wonder if we've been watching the same matches. Sometimes I question my own judgement. Well, at least my pal, and Large (above) agree with me.

    Pritchard had more assists than Zaha last year!!!

    Pritchard isn't the most skillfull player ever but he provides something other players don't. The problem is that some people follow the ball when they watch football and others watch the game - a lot of what Pritchard brings to the team is done off the ball. People will see a misplaced pass or a player being tackled and not appreciate the effect a player who is everywhere (because of his game and engine) has to the side.

    Not being disrespectful, but I would suggest that anybody that doesn't rate him highly, spends 20 minutes or so in a game, just watching what he does.

    Couldn't agree more and the high amount of assists he got tells you there's more to his game on the ball too, think the improvement he has shown for a player that has only been a professional 2 years is remarkable.

    I agree with some of your points, viewfinder. Deserves his place in team but I think he is overrated on this forum at times. By no means à bad player but personally not a key player for me and not a name on the team sheet I look for. I like the bloke but his overrall form was patchy and a couple of goals at the end of the season and people were saying "he's a goal scorer, now".

    I know you're not being disrespectful, and neither am I when I say I have been attending Charlton matches for almost 50 years and am capable of reading the game and the players. As the game has developed, the need to retain possession has become more important in fashioning a successful team - look at Barcelona or the Spanish national side, for instance. This aspect has filtered down through domestic leagues. I reiterate: in my view, Pritchard (and Stephens, incidentally) gets knocked off the ball far too easily and concedes possession too often by misplacing passes. I'm not saying he cannot or will not improve.

    To be fair, we have so few players this season, there will be little difficulty watching out for all of them (plus a few of the back-room staff) at the same time.

    (Agree Pritchard is improving but still needs to beef up a bit)
