I don't get to see enough good ads out here, believe it or not the UK is still the best in the world at it. This is one of my favorites from the last couple of years
Coming up next - Seth Plum exposes women who use make up to hide their real look, the duplicitous cows.
I will now add them to the 'creatures of the night who despise humanity' pile.
Nah, women who use make up are victims of the chite adverts in the pages of magazines. Or use Olay because Jessica Ennis advertises it, and if they use it they will win the Olympic Heptathlon. Or are endlessly told the way they actualy look isn't good enough, or even use make up for fun. Either way those who advertise the products are creatures of the night who indeed despise humanity.
No more digging against Seth, my I need oxygen for all that laughing!!!
i highly recommend a 3 part documentary called “century of the self” by adam curtis to anyone interested in thinking a bit deeper about the role of advertising in society
by adam curtis/bbc
he picks up with the post war rebranding of “propaganda” as “public relations”/“advertising”... annnnnd... just watch it... its brilliant
For me the question whether I like an advert (as opposed to the product) is whether I instantly reach for the controls to change channels. The two which still make me smile are the Kronenbourg advert with Cantona (great 'knowing nod at the end') and the new Southern Comfort one where the woman gives just the hint of a smile at the end. Brilliant
My biggest criticism of Agencies is when they appear to be losing sight of what they are selling, and are determined to be amusing never mind the product. To me they are often trying to sell themselves, rather than their client. Being funny is fine first time you see it, but when you have seen the product jump out of the Kitchen Cupboard for the umpteenth time, I start to wish that it would smash his face in.
I can make my own decisions on what to purchase and I ignore the bogus promises that are made by TV adverts. I make a point of not buying anything that is advertised.
Except the stuff that promises to make me more attractive to the opposite sex. Or the stuff that is so cheap, or discounted or in a sale that I would be silly not to buy it. Or anything that is top quality and a massive improvement on anything else on the market. Or on special offer. Or endorsed by a celebrity.
All very nice, but you can't make tyres roll and accelerate up hill without applying a continuous force, unless you computer animate it that is. Same goes for the exhaust silencer, it would stop rolling (if it would roll at all) long before it makes contact with the next part of the apparatus. Bits of it may be real but bits are definitely computer animated, which make it a bit of a con imho and not a patch on this one, which is a variation on a theme:
i know this ain't an advert of anything other than annoying and stupid, the the admiral insurance ad, that's permanently showing on dave. i can't believe the client bought it!
