What football is about

Not a thread about finance, directors or owners. But a thread about supporters.

The man in the video is terminally ill. His last wish was to see his team in his ground.

quite simply football is tribal .. we once paid allegiance to our kith and kin, our clan .. now we make and follow our own clans
  • All best wishes to the young man. What exactly does football mean to you? A 20-second video of Waggy's goal against Bournemouth posted on CL a few weeks ago sums it all up for me. The video was shot from the crowd in the Covered End: a corner comes over, arcing gracefully (I love the geometry of the game), a defender nods it out of the box to the wing, and one of our lads pings it straight across to Waggy, who is standing just outside the 'D'. Waggy hammers it, first time. The instant the ball leaves his boot, some of the fans are springing to their feet in anticipation. The ball arrows past the keeper's despairing dive, hits the onion bag, and the camera goes all wonky with the whole crowd jumping up and down in a state of orgasmic delirium.
  • All best wishes to the young man.

Well intentioned but late, he died 3 days after the video was shot. If you watch from 3.45 you see how much it means to him, it's preseason training and his friends, family and club have united to give him a great day.
