Anyone live there?
GRAVESEND has been ranked among the top 10 worst places to live in the country.
The north Kent town came sixth in the 2013 list by website chavtowns.co.uk.
Hull came top of the pile based on the number comments posted on the site.
One user, who goes by the name of bigupboi, posted: “Gravesend is populated by the most grotesque, loathsome, vile and vulgar sub-human vermin that one could ever have the misfortune to come across.
“The vast majority of its inhabitants (chavs and pikies) are foul, hateful, and degraded beings who, in evolutionary terms, have not evolved much from the amoeba.”
Plumstead, Woolwich and Thamesmead knock Gravesend in to a cocked hat as far as shit places to live go. Chuck in Deptford, Tower Hamlets, Stratford (in fact, the entire borough of Newham) and a few other absolute toilets and Gravesend can feel much better about itself.
Went to Stratford (Newer part behind Westfields) to visit a building site last week and I couldn't believe that despite years of building new housing and millions pumped in it still an absolute hole.
If we are talking the UK then Speke (no pun intended) on Merseyside comes top by a country mile and as having been involved in the shop fitting industry for nearly 40 years, there are not many places I have not worked in. I mean Merseyside is a hole populated by some of the lowest of the low but Speke drags it down to new levels

I'm over there quite regularly and feel like I need to have a shower upon entry and exit.
You can roll a turd in glitter but it's still a turd 😬👍🏻
Immingham is a dump of epic proportions. Rotherham is also dreadful and as for Bradford….enough said.
Having joined a ship in refit there years ago and subsequently been stranded for months, I fully sympathise with your view of Immingham.
However, having experienced quite a few depressing UK ports in my time, I have to offer Hartlepool as a worthy contender for the winner of UK charmless dump of the decade.
Like the film set for a Mad Max movie but with northern people and rain.
Lived in Gravesend for two years fairly recently (Parrock Street), I quite liked most of it, Victorian Hamer Street, Windmill Hill area, the park and promenade by the Thames, some decent pubs.
Overcliffe/Milton areas not great, but Chatham/Gillingham are far worse imo I’m born and bred Woolwich/charlton/plumstead/eltham/Kidbrooke in council estates and housing so I’m no snob, but there are far worse areas
Lived just down the road from The Milton Ale Shades (85-88) loved it at the time. I'd previously lived in Greenhithe and got quite bored of it by the time I'd reach 18 so Gravesend at the time was a nice change, particularly good pub scene back then.
Well having been born and bred in the town (well born in Brompton nr Gillingham) but my dad still lives in the house he moved into before i was born, St Hildas Way, have two brothers and my mother who still live there. Sister lives in Dartford.
I do cringe every time i go back at the state it's become, full of endless chavs filling up the town centre and hanging about outside the wetherspoons and the somerset arms screaming and balling at everyone going up and down the street. What happened to the nice shops up windmill street and high street.
Place is full of eateries that no-one is going into and some prick recently burned down my old pub the new inn at the top of Queen Street.
Haven't been up windmill hill in years, used to have discos up there back in the day, great view of all the ships going up and down the Thames.
Lots of places are similar Dartford isn't much better if not worse. My sis lives there, and they have just built a new block of flats opposite her in lowfield street that is now full of London over spill scum selling their drugs and partying to the early hours.
No amount of money would make me move back that way. Shame.
Blame US style shopping malls like Lakeside and Bluewater for sucking the life out of towns with pride and heritage like Gravesend.
Overseas property consortiums make another squillion while we sit in a six hour traffic jam on the M25 and our local town turns into another English sh*thole.
Parking costs being in there too Grumpy. That's one of the reasons that door to door delivery is so successful.

Agreed. Look at Canterbury. More than £6 now for a 20 minute minimum stay.
Result is a once spectacular Roman city turning rapidly into Gravesend but with a cathedral instead of a Gurdwara and more boarded up shops.
I think a key ingrediant for shithole can often directly be perceived by living space density of kebab shops.
If there is quite literally a kebab shop on every other road or corner of the named town/city, then it will probably reflect on how much of a dump it is.
There aren't any kebab shops in the town centre of York. It's a nice place.
Gravesend only actually has a handful of kebab shops.
If you want to get a haircut...then Gravesend will be your haven.
