Tekkie help required

thought I'd lost all my Oz photos from 2008 that I had on my PC as somehow they disappeared. Luckily I still had them on the memory card in my camera (shows how often I take photos) and have been able to reload them onto the PC. Got me thinking though that if I didn't have the memory card I'd have lost them all and also what if all my music on itunes suddenly decided to go the same way. So I need to back it all up but what is the easiest way to do it? What do I need to buy? Recoomendations greatly appreciated.

Download to a CD?
Open a Facebook account or Flickr or something similar and store them there?0 -

All I do is stick all my photos on Facebook and make the albums private so only I can see them. That way you free up plenty of memory on your machine. Another reason to use Facebook.
I'm by no means a takkie btw so someone else might have a better option mate0 -
Large, depends how tekkie you want to go. But I'd buy a portable USB hard disk and copy everything of value on to there. If you PC goes belly up you've got your data elsewhere.
But if you're going to it, do it regularly.

Dropbox is excellent ...also use a backup hard drive if you have large amounts of dataThe Red Robin said:Dropbox https://dropbox.com/

Bit pricey and perfect if you have a mac, but I'm told it can also be used with windows (though there's bound to be a non-Apple alternative).
But I'm an Apple fiend, it's so easy to set up for Apple products and it works a treat so i can highly recommend it.

If it's windows - usb drive with a scheduled task to back up specific directories using robocopy scripts with the 'mirror' switch
Sounds complicated, but really isn't0 -
thanks for all the suggestions. I'll look into them all and decide what is the best way to go.0

backblaze.com couldn't be simpler, or less expensive. If you're concerned about privacy you can set keys that only you have.
Out of courtesy the NSA backs up the world's data for free, so there's that option.0 - Sponsored links:

Agreed, but you can easily get 50GB of data on Dropbox for nowt, and more I think if you're prepared to bombard your mates' inboxes with invitations to Dropbox.stonemuse said:

Top tip.
Buy a 2TB USB expansion disk and then DO NOT drop the bloody thing 2 hours later!0
