Just seen a clip of the late Maggie giving one of her speeches from the 80's and there was dear old David wiping a tear from his eye. In this hard and cynical world isn't it refreshing to see someone behave so sensitively and caring. Mind you the quick sideways glance to the camera was a bit of a giveaway. Puke.

    Is there a clip, I'm not doubting you BTW, but the manipulation by the media and by politicians is always fascinating viewed from my pleb perspective so to speak.

    Love it. Got it all on record so I can watch it all again. Love the Conservative Party and Maggie was an all time fav. Dave, Ossie, that Govie boy he's a lark and IF we are lucky and he has taken time off from winding up lefties a rousing speach from HRH Boris.

    Seth I could only find reference to it rather than the clip. Please feel free to doubt as sometimes we see what we want to see and that includes me. In this case I reckon he is bang to rights unless he had grit in his eye!

    There is a fantastically underrated War film directed by Richard Attenborough of the Joan Littlewood creation 'Oh What a Lovely War'. Watching that as a young man it was as much about the class divide as it was the horrors of WW1 and it had an impact on me.
    It seems what makes the Tories happy is if the rest of us 'know our place', judging by the success of Downton Abbey, which I confess to never having watched beyond two minutes, it is an attitude that never seems to have gone away.
    Any lifers got their own coat of arms?

    That film was a load of left wing twaddle. Those English hating luvvies must of been queuing round the block to jump on that bandwagon. Enjoyed the music though.

    As for Joan Littlewood, she features in the Harry H Corbett biography. Nest of traitorous vipers that lot. Norvern socialist acting collective my arse.

    Downton is just ridiculous though...

    There is plenty of difference between the parties. One of the problems any government has is how to best appease those that don't support it - as Morsi in Egypt found to his cost recently.

    What holds back our government are those that are still obsessed with the old class war mindset; people who fixate on how to re-distribute wealth instead of trying to create it.

    More independents/smaller parties. More people actually voting based on policy and not just a labour/conservative choice.

    You probably need to change the voting system to make that happen - the current one makes it hard for smaller parties. If say you had true proportional representation, you would know that whoever you voted for your vote would count for something.

    It's not in Labour or the Conservatives interest to put forward such a change in the voting system. Lib Dems would love it though (well, would have until they lost all their voters.)

    The one time the Lib Dems tried to change to a (very slightly) fairer voting system, the public shut it down because they don't like change.

    I stopped coming on this site for 4 months this year after getting sucked into a politics debate around the time Margaret Thatcher passed away so must promise myself not to get reeled in again, especially as by and large I am fairly apathetic.

    Just have to accept we are all different.

    Just don't vote labour ok :)

    Wales and N Ireland will still be part of it. Pie is a good name though lol

    I doubt Scotland will vote for independence anyway going by the latest opinion polls.
