Grant Basey joins Ebbsfleet

Seems like Grant Basey has joined Brownie and Reg down at Ebbsfleet, wish him well but thought "Pacey" was better than Conference South.

He's had two serious longterm injuries.

That thug Blizzard a few years back and a cruciate, or similar, at Wycombe last season.

Hopefully an environment like Ebbsfleet where there are friendly , familiar faces will help him come back.

His lack of pace (even before his injuries) was always going to limit his progress but he is definitely good enough for league 1 or 2 in my view.

Really good lad is Grant Basey.

Blizzard should have been banned for as long as Grant was out injured after that horror tackle.

He's good enough for the levels already mentioned but in this current age you are soon forgotten about very quickly. Eg: Fry - Dartford. Borrowdale - Tonbridge.

Good luck to him in a side with one league win so far this season

And by most accounts were lucky to scrape through at home to Folkestone on saturday
  • Was right next to that Blizzard foul, pissed as a fart seeing double but saw it and cringed, really bad stuff and not even a card if I remember rightly. Ergh

The foul was bad, but Grant was never good enough for high level pro football - too one paced and flat footed against even the very best League One footballers.

We had him chanting 'we hate Millwall' in a club in Dublin a few years ago. Best of luck to him.
  • Always saw him as a lower league Gareth Barry in the making, didn't really have the physical attributes to be a modern full back but he could be a tidy holding midfielder imo. Hope he gets his career back on track down there. It's a club with potential right now so he could easily work his way back into league football.

Loads of decent players are unable to find a job. Money is tight everywhere (except the prem) and at the lower levels a degree of realism has taken hold .. clubs can't spend money they don't have

Better centre back than left back. Lack of pace less of an issue in the middle and he reads the game well
  • Hopefully Ebbsfleet will have a good run in the cup with Grant having a good run in the side where he quickly gets snapped back up by a League team.

Wish him all the best... always liked him as a player

  • Unfortuanatley was injured on his ebbsfleet debut had to come off at half time hope it is not too serious but one paper states it is a reoccurrence of his knee injury. Hope not a good lad and I wish him well.

When he got in the side 09/10 season was rarely embaressed. When he played center half, his excellent distribution came to the fore and his reading of the game meant his pace wasn't a weakness: certainly quicker than many of our cd's in recent years.

His matches for Peterborough where at center half, and they got promoted. Easily league one level. Good luck to him.

How very sad for Grant, wish him all the best. All gone downhill after that terrible tackle at Bristol Rovers. Helped ruin a decent pro career.

Went along today to The FA Cup First Qualifying round to watch VCD Athletic vs Hampton & Richmond Borough. Grant Basey played the full 90 for VCD and had a solid game, Played well along the backline and was looking very comfortable on the ball.

Wasn't it Basey that suffered that rascal tackle against Bristol Rovers after about 2 minutes? Don't think he ever recovered from that.

It was after less than two minutes. It was after about 20 seconds and only got a yellow. Solly came on and looked a bit lost. He was only 17 tbf.
