I know there are a few Darts fans on here so they will doubtless be as sad as I am to hear of the death of Ernie.

He lived near me and I used to bump into him from time to time and had a few conversations with him about football in the "old days."

It was enlightening for someone like me who takes an interest in the history of sport as well as the present day to hear what he had to say.

RIP Ernie you were a good bloke.

  • That Dartford side he took to the Southern League title as Manager was one of the best non-league outfits I have ever seen. I worked on the local paper at the time as a keen young reporter and know that he was totally respected by the Sports Editor as someone who was always available at agreed times for a weekly call, never said anything silly and had a fantastic football brain and knowledge of players. RIP a true local hero.
