  • I wish I'd started this thread at the start of the season. I wonder how often TJ / MS have seen us this season.
  • Tone was spotted at Chelsea in the cheap seats, I have this fro a very reliable source. And no he definitely wasn't wishes guest!
  • Biggest pisstake ever of Charlton supporters this lot being able to buy our club .

Really? Much better we went wth the subsequently convicted fraudster then, eh?

  • There's a reply to that off it that I'm sure could lead people into legal trouble so I'll leave it at that !

    Eh?

My point was that beggars can't be choosers, and we know that the quality of some of those lined up to take over was in the "dubious" category, to say the least.

Who's to say the next lot, if there is a next lot, will be any better? Football has gone beyond clubs being owned by the local lad, brought up on the terrace, making good and buying his club. Mores the pity

Now I know you're kidding! Too obvious ;-)

    Agree.

The good they've done still outweighs the bad imo
  • I think you will find that Martin Prothero is at 75% of games home and away but he doesn't own equity...the thing is that he is the director with operational responsibility for both playing and non-playing sides of the club

Yes he mentioned that about five times in a recent programme.

Of course you are right, although I just wanted to mention that Swansea is in fact the old model. The 'consortium of local businessmen' that found most of the money were/are in large part exactly the type you mentioned. But the money involved was a fraction of what would be needed to buy CAFC.

I went to visit them and have written it all up for the Trust news/website. It really was like stepping back in time, in a good way. The Supporters Director, Huw Cooze, said to me more than once "we are all working class people", and I understood that this applies not just to the Trust guys but a couple of the directors too. But that is Swansea as a place for you. We are in London. It looks like we have to be realistic, we can't just 'do a Swansea'. More's the pity

So you'd say a Chairman who has just lost a High Court Case based on breach of trust, in the sum of £500k + interest along with additional £230k in costs and whom the judge treated their evidence "with extreme caution" is of 'good character' Offy?
  • Did I say that?

Just saying be careful what you wish for. When Mugabe turns up in the boardroom and all of the established season ticket holders get turfed out in favour of his mates then the current lot would look like saints.

Lol, what was quite funny was that he was standing next to his picture in the boardroom!
  • The days of Chairmen watching their side week in and week out are long gone anyway, its not just Charlton.

I think the Man City owner, who is obviously adored by their supporters, has only been to one game.

I can live with that but I want to see how often our dynamic duo of TJ and MS actually do attend.

  • Why exactly?

Agreed but he doesn't go and support another English team, that's what I find difficult to understand.

Obviously only in it to try & make a quick buck but not really sure that will work if they don't put in the resources.

I think it is a reasonable gauge as to any genuine interest in us other than trying to earn a few bob. I personally think he couldn't give a toss other than feathering his own nest.

  • I think we've all known pretty much from the beginning that this is a business venture only for TJ, and nothing more. Whether he is at the game or not doesn't make much difference to that.

I think that's wrong. How can he have any feel for the strength or otherwise of our squad and empathy with the manager and fans on the match day experience. As I understand it he doesn't attend matches or set foot in the place much at any time. That as far as I am concerned means he cares sod all about Charlton Athletic, it's fans, manager and players other than a £ sign. It's not what I want in an owner. Go now please.

  • That's a bit harsh on cafctom, SHG. He was only giving you his view.

Blimey. I only said I thought his view was wrong and qualified why I think that. Not an attack on Tom himself. Apologies if that's how it reads.
