A couple of anecdotes, like mistrollingin before SadieJane's comment I have previously heard nothing but good things about him both privately and pubilically .
Yes his family were Addicks fans but I understand his wife's family supported Millwall . A guy I worked with used to go to The Den with Billy's wife's father and he told me that Bondzo was extremely generous to him and his other mates at the funeral and personally thanked them for being friends to his father in law and going to football with him.
Moving on to his attachment to the Addicks.I never saw him play a professional game for us but saw him play a few times for Keith Peacock's Vets side.My favourite memory of this was in one of the inaugural over 35 masters tournaments which used to be played at the now demolished London Arena.
He actually played for Charlton despite the Hammers also fielding a team in the competition. He claimed Keith Peacock had asked him first and once he had committed to the Charlton side he wouldn't change over .For me despite the fact that he was probably 20 years older than most of the other players on show he was the best defender in the competition and was a key reason why we got to play a very strong Spurs team in the final and only lost to them on penalties. This was also the only time that both Walsh's Colin and Paul ever played in the same Addicks team.
I apologise for my contribution or lack of perhaps was inappropriate? I am not disputing his talents his loyalties etc etc I am also not disputing the way he comes across as "a nice guy" my problems with him are purely personal I shouldn't have aired them on here.

Thanks, CAFC999 may have some photos to get signed.
Was told by a West Ham fan who knows him that he still lives in Chislehurst so might try to get him along to Bromley Addicks.
I know exactly where BB lives...Next door to my bestest mate. Was socialising with him in the summer and he even went as far as to show me his 'half-toe' that he lost when some hairy centre forward deliberately stamped on his foot. Naturally, he played on...

I remember going to that Masters event Richard at the London Arena. You are right Billy had a about 15/20 years on most of the players that night and was a rock at the back.
Used to regularly visit the West Ham training ground at Chadwell Heath when I was a kid. Billy Bonds was a big star in those days along with Moore etc. Watching him train was like watching a man amongst boys.

Lucky he never had a Charlie habit with that 'ooter though!
I never saw a player as physically strong as Billy Bonds. So in retrospect it's no surprise he was converted into a midfielder.
My mum worked in the same shop in Middle Park as Billy's brother, Micky Bonds.
Happy Birthday Billy.
