Sam Sodje named as match fixing rigger

Shocking news.
Always liked him despite his limitations for his effort and what I thought was commitment. Perhaps he wasn't doing it while with us but the doubts will now always be there.
If proved guilty I hope he is serverely punished.0 -
I'll never forget "we've got two Sodje's, he's got two yellow cards"...
I assume, from digging online, that this is the alleged £70k red card:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15CXZn_7_T4

But it seems to be more claims that they can do things rather than actually doing things. Idiots, definitely.
And we got beat 4 - 0 off Warbury as well.0 -
yup, descibed as a punch to the er, groin.Callumcafc said:I'll never forget "we've got two Sodje's, he's got two yellow cards"...

Is this Akpo's way of saying he 'intentionally' missed all those chances?0

Good work by the Sun. Sometimes the tabloids contribute something useful.2

You can take the boys out of Nigeria .........
The place is a cesspool of corruption, so it's little wonder they probably think nothing of it.

Think a lot of players would unfortunately do the same - you don't have to throw a game, score an own goal etc, just get a yellow card in a boring mid-table game and we'll give you six months wages, tax free.
Plenty who wouldn't too, but I think a lot would.

He got 70k to get himself sent off and was then fined 10k.
People will obviously judge him but how many would do the same? 70k, he's playing in league two! That's probably 9-10 months wages.2 -
Actually makes me sad watching that.0

Still think the Leeds game was dodgy in some way.1

Very disappointing that two local SE London boys, albeit they lived much of their childhoods in Nigeria, are implicated in this.
I liked them both as players since they came across as obviously limited players who gave everything they had to make the most of what they had and also seemed to care about the Club in an era most did not.
Disillusioned and a little bit sad too.2 -
Although the older brother Efe Sodje of Macclesfield is in no way implicated , i see he has been sent of 19 times in his career ....0
-
He got some very strange/stupid red cards for us0

Despite all this, Akpo vs Swindon was one of the best displays by a Charlton forward since the Premiership.0

I can't believe that this is confined to Sam and Akpoe Sodje or just players with Nigerian links, the recent exposures show that the beautiful game has a criminal under current.
As an aside, whatever happened about the home game with Liverpool, was that an inside job? Anyone sacked or convicted?0 -
The old memory might be playing tricks but I think Goldrange stewards were involved somewhere along the line.Kap10 said:I can't believe that this is confined to Sam and Akpoe Sodje or just players with Nigerian links, the recent exposures show that the beautiful game has a criminal under current.

Therefore not a Charlton "inside job" as such if I'm right.0 -
This is a real shame. Was a really big fan of Sam Sodje - very few would win in the air against him.
As stated previously it is amazing how much money they can earn for doing something so little and in the grand scheme of things - so little importance.0 -
Who is Christian Montano?0

I think Goldrange did do the security back then so Firth could have been employed by them if so.0 -
If I was a third tier footballer, nearing the end of my career, earning 2k a week and fuck all chance of earning much outside the game once it had finished and had a family to support, for £70k I'll have to admit I'd take a yellow card every day of the week

It might be easy for me to disapprove, knowing that no-one will ever offer me 70k for a few minutes work, but if I was ever in that position, then I don't know 100% that I would definitely turn it down, I must admit. I mean I'd like to think I would, but I couldn't swear to it!oohaahmortimer said:If I was a third tier footballer, nearing the end of my career, earning 2k a week and fuck all chance of earning much outside the game once it had finished and had a family to support, for £70k I'll have to admit I'd take a yellow card every day of the week

spot on mate Its rife in the game but 70k for booking that's too good to turn down0
-
It like spot fixing in cricket... A no ball here, as expensive over there... Unlikely to change the outcome of the match, only one person needs to be involved... Pay them a fraction of what will be gambled but what is a lot to them... What's the problem?
I think it's rife. I'd like to say I wouldn't, but them I'm not expected to retire in my 30s0
