My daughter teaches at a local primary school and for the second year running I was talked into being Santa for an afternoon. I was assured this was not because of any physical similarities between myself and the great man but purely for my interrogational skills in regard to Christmas presents. I did note however that my wife advised the woman in the fancy dress shop that the false belly would not be required for my Santa outfit. So it was off to the school yesterday to do some Ho, Ho, Ho-ing.
After running through the reindeer's names and telling them to leave out carrots for Rudolph and Co. and mince pies and their dad's whisky for me we got to the big question. Out of around 90 youngsters Batman stuff was the most popular with the boys and Barbie/My little pony with the girls. These were followed by skateboards, star wars stuff, Lego, and bicycles. Only one football shirt (Spurs) and, surprisingly, only one I-pad (though most of them seem to have I-phones already, even the 5-year olds). There were also 2 boomerangs, a rocking horse, and a hamster. Chocolate fountains were popular but there was only one request for a mouse (white please Santa). It was a good afternoon and interesting to see that most of them still 'believe' though personally I was disappointed that neither Hornby Dublo or Dinky Toys got a mention though one lad asked for a real racing car: I could have trouble getting that down the chimney!

Did you make any cry??
I reckon you'd make a great Santa @March51
One of my boys has asked for skittles. My dad taught him to line up all his toy men on a table and knock them over with a rolling ball ten-pin bowling style. He now plays this for about 4 hours a day. Skittles is the next step up, and i reckon by next xmas he'll be asking for a bowling alley or a specialist ball and towel.
Do social services know?

Wife told her we already have one which she dominates the use of (Peppa Pig)
To which 2 year old says that I-pad is Mummy's and she needs her own
I have to say, as a single Dad, I find the whole Christmas shopping process traumatic to say the least. After 7 years, I still dont know what the hell to buy. I think 7 is one of them really awkward ages to buy for, as they're beyond the likes of Peppa Pig, Dora the Explorer, Disney Princesses and stuff like that...but then they're still maybe too young for other stuff. It doesnt help as she's got two families buying for her, she's got almost everything a kid could ever wish for.
With that in mind, I asked her that if she could have a choice of one big single present or a load of smaller presents, what would she like? She said one present. Odds on her having a tantrum on Boxing Day when she realises she's only got one present???...
I've told him to buy one for himself with the money he'll get off the in-laws etc.
His Mum has bought him a PS4 - which I think is to compensate for running off and leaving us, and to incentivise him to want to go to her flat to play with it. She tells me that he will not be allowed to bring it home, even though he only goes over there for half a day a week - she is too busy to give him any more of her precious time.
Something tells me I will be buying a PS4 in January. Thanks Mrs KHA!
I was a bit of geek with the Rubik's Cube when I was younger and still have one on my desk to this day. There are some great web sites and you tube videos these days to teach you how to solve it. There are many people that can, consistently, solve it in under 15 seconds. It's a great way for kids to practice memory skills, and I have yet to meet anyone that is not impressed when you can just solve one.
Web sites and you tube videos??? She will have it solved by Christmas day tea time then! Guess the days of carefully peeling the stickers off and the putting them back on to complete the cube have gone then!
Fortunately, having the build of a racing snake myself I'm some way off being asked to play Santa...ahem, cough, cough.
I remember being given a tatty sheet of paper (that had been subject to about a 1000 photocopies) with a long list of instructions on it for the cube. Took me a few days to remember the lot but got there in the end and could solve it comfortably inside 20 secs.
The other day I forgot my postcode...
Like kids do, he supports multiple teams - Charlton of course - but also Yeovil, Chesterfield & Atalanta - the power of FIFA 2014 I guess.
