Ode To Chris Powell

  • Chris Powell:

    Legend as a Charlton Player!
    Legend as a Charlton Manager!
  • There was a young man called Chris,
Who not many people would diss,
    Not renewing his contract
    would seriously detract,
But if we keep him, we’ll all be in bliss!
  • Excellent Sadiejane :-)

Or both ... hope he gets back to you! Maybe he'll be a touch embarrassed too.

You need to put the unhappy ending to this a few more verses from when it was first written to now
  • I like that Paulie

Yes it's a nice little end paulie, however I think it's done now. Powell has gone, I still love the guy but this poem should be left in the past. Powell read it, he loved it and his words were 'it cheered me up no end' this was when he was very unsure, quite rightly, of his future and he was obviously down. I put a smile on his face and let him know that we were mostly behind him and he left us knowing that, so job done.
  • I don't know how I missed this when it was originally posted. One of those weeks, I guess. Brilliant work, SadieJane
  • Whilst reading it, I imagined Sadie to sound like Pam Ayres. .........................

It's an old thread ffs, lighten up!
  • Powell was our manager
and did alright in league 1
and towards the end of last season
but this year he was crap

He refused to adapt to a new boss
    and got sacked
so a new guy came in
got on with what he had
and showed everyone where Powell was lacking

    The end

It has a ring to it if you read it with a Flemish accent
  • I presume before the translation from Flemish it rhymed?

Rhyming is overated, free verse is the way forward
