NHL: Winter Classic Maple Leafs v Red Wings

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/nhl/news/20140101/nhl-winter-classic-michigan-stadium/

Watched yesterday, totally enthralled by it. Open air game, 105,000 people in attendence, -20 degrees C with wind chill, snow falling during game. I think the novelty of this fixture plus taking the game back to its origins in pond hockey has caught the imagination of the public. Leafs won 3-2.

Wonder what a football equivalent of this fixture would be?

  • No idea, but as a Wings fan I would have loved to be there.

Probably something like a game on Hackney with temporary stands making up a 200k stadium, but that would never work.
  • Were there big screens up because how all 105,000 people could see the puck is beyond me.
