Charlton all time slowest eleven

  • Agree on Jacko. Especially now he has slowed up even more. Always had attributes. Pace ain't one of them!
  • Who was slower Jamie Stuart or Paul Sturgess?

To be fair both were faster than poor old Grant Basey.
  • Karim Bagheri - hardly terrorised Leicester on his debut with pace.
  • I.think stuart would have beaten sturgess in a 100m dash but he was such a dosy player he was always a half second behind the play so he used to get roasted

  • Karim Bagheri - hardly terrorised Leicester Ipswich on his debut with pace.

bit harsh to pick on his lack of pace in particular, he was lacking in everything.

Maybe Jamie Stuart was feeling a bit, ahem, mellow on the pitch...
  • Nicky Weaver
Paul Bacon Gary Doherty Phil Chapple Ray Tumbridge
Paul Davis Neil Redfearn John Barnes
    Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink Pawel Abbott

  • Salim Kerkar

He's not even playing football any more!
From what I saw, he never was..............
  • See some votes for the Doc but he would have skinned Carl Tiler. He was total pony and slow as a carthorse with no legs

    Paul Davis? Who is he?

  • Paul Davis played in the seventies (or was it Davies???), previosly with Arsenal; forward cum midfielder, very slow and cumbersome.
  • Lawrie Madden?

  • David Madden
  • How quick is Andy Hughes?
  • Don't forget Miguel Llera. Was definitely Chapple Class when it came to acceleration.
  • Harry Cripps.

I'm sorry but clearly there aren't enough of us on here "of a certain age" because how 'arry Boy doesn't get one of the central midfield slots is beyond me!

He had the turning circle of a London bus a long time before he left Millwall to finish his career with us and the change in scenery certainly didn't improve his lack of pace!

  • Kevin Lisbie..... when getting back onside...
  • a few from the 70s

    dietmar bruck...

    jimmy giles

    alan dugdale

    dave shipperley

    karkouri

brown (although a cafc legend and wont hear a word against him)

  • Darren Pitcher was not very quick if I remember. Recall him tracking back when we played Everton at Selhurst and got left behind by the entire team which led to an Everton goal. I'm sure we lost 2-0 in that game.

  • Keith Gillespie once he got to us. Shit and slow!

Maurice Setters could hardly walk let alone run.

Am I making it up? Didn't a free kick go through his bandy legs?

Bandiest player I ever saw - "Where's yer 'orse, Maurice", they used to shout.
Only played for us for a few games right at the end of his career.

By then he had already played more than 350 games in the top tier for 15 years, including more than 150 appearances for Man Utd under Matt Busby.

He was one of the players they signed after the Munich air crash.

  • Talking of players like Maurice Setters, he was well into his 30s when he came to Charlton.

Reading the thread, a lot of posters have commented how slow some players were, but many of them were already well into their 30s and coming towards the end of long careers.

Remember young John Barnes ripping up top tier defences for fun playing for Liverpool - or the stunning solo wonder goal scored for England dribbling through the Brazil defence ? ...... compared with the tubby 35 year old playing for Charlton who was rarely able to move out of the centre circle.

FACT: very few players are as quick in their mid thirties compared to their younger prime. Obviously.
