On Saturday morning i was walking over London Bridge to work and when i got halfway over the bridge there was a guy sitting there with his legs dangling over the edge with his head in his hands crying, clearly distressed. A passing lady and man were speaking to him trying to coax him down. I called 999, reported it and walked on. To be honest i didn't know what to do, and it didn't feel right hanging around like it was an event. When i got to the other side of a bridge a cop car was wizzing past me.
About 10 minutes later i got a call from the police just to let me know they had got the guy down safely.
Bizarre thing to see, shook me up big time. Just hope he is all ok.
I remember walking over London Bridge with a mate back in the late 80s having had a few beers after work. There was a bit of a commotion in front of us and when we looked we could see a man climbing onto the side and just jump immediately. A few people closer than us, but we grabbed one of the rubber rings they have along the bridge & threw it in. Sadly, it looked like he'd gone under and we were told by police later that the current means that it was likely that he wouldn't surface until after Tower Bridge. Horrible thing to have witnessed, more so for those much closer I think.
Thankful that there are people like Mike out there who managed to make such a difference in this case.
